Welcome Spring!
Yes, it is officially Spring although my blog has nothing to do with that but it has to do with this…
Friday night when we went to Emerson Dorsch Gallery for the opening reception of their exhibition “Jen Clay: This World Doesn’t Belong to You.” It was great chatting with our friend Brook who owns the gallery with his wife Tyler. If you’re in Little Haiti stop in and check it out. I also encourage you to read the journal by his wife Tyler on their website. Click here to read it, perhaps you too will then realize that Jen Clay’s figures have a very familiar feel.
On Saturday, watching Nicholas at his Special Olympics tennis competition up in Boca Raton last Saturday where he placed first (we think). Things were quite disorganized so they’re confirming if he placed first or second. Regardless, he represented the City of Miami team with gusto.
Wednesday after delivering my weekly food rescue from Trader Joe’s Coral Gables to Village Freedge in Liberty City, I hiked to West Hialeah to support my cousin Michael and his wife Margarita in their new venture. They are now the proud franchise owners of a WaveMAX Laundry business at 5966 W 16 Ave. City of Hialeah Mayor Steve Bovo came to cut the ribbon and I got to chat with my aunt Lourdes and Michael’s brother, my other cousin Matthew. Click on the link above to visit their Facebook page and watch the Grand Opening video.
That night, Vance and I went to Old Tom’s in Miami Springs where you’ll usually find us with our friends Kevin and Michelle at Trivia Night except this time their son Jake and our friend Phil joined us. We got first place, see our proud smiling faces in the picture above!!!!
Tonight was spectacular as I watched dancers from the Miami City Ballet grace an outdoor stage at the MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) Plaza just blocks from my house. Miami City Ballet: Impromptu featured solos, ensemble dances, trios, duos and all types of dance forms. It was great to then walk through the museum after the performances and see the current exhibitions on display. Click here to visit the MOCA website and see everything they’ve got going on and click here to learn about Miami City Ballet and all their programs and upcoming performances.
I took the opportunity while leaving the museum to introduce myself to Geo Darder, a gallery owner and North Miami’s cultural guru who gave me what he called “a hard hat tour” of his Copperbridge Foundation that is also just blocks from my house. What he’s planning there is pretty spectacular, can’t wait to see the finished building/complex. It’s going to be a haven for art, music and more. Click on the link above to see all the projects he’s got going on.
Finally, click here to read my article about the play “Next to Normal” put on by Zoetic Stage that I attended last week at the Arsht Center.
Tomorrow I’m headed to the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair and Sunday to the Miami Open tennis tournament. I’ll tell you all about these next Friday.
Have a great week and weekend.
