Plays, the Fair and Miami Open new ballpark food & more

Nick and his friend Yesenia on a ride at the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair.

So much more. It was another fun, productive and active week kicking off on Saturday with a fun time at the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair. Nicholas and his friend Yesenia had a great time, just check out the smile on his face on one of the rides. I got to meet and hang out with Yesi’s cousin Jeannette who is a wonderful person. We had a really nice afternoon.

Me and my better half at the Miami Open at Hard Rock Stadium.

Lots and lots of aces in this match that only lasted 58 minutes

Me and Monica at the Miami Open

Sunday my husband Vance and I along with my best friend Monica spent a very hot, but gorgeous day at the Miami Open. We watched several great matches with lots of aces and hard hitting, enjoyed the grounds and even rode the gondola, a new feature at Hard Rock Stadium.

Cats & Dogs Walkway at Maurice A. Ferre Park in Downtown Miami

“Génesis Canto a la Vida” bronze sculptures by Jiménez Deredia behind PAMM (Pérez Art Museum Miami) in Downtown Miami.

Monday I spent the early afternoon at the Arsht Center (where I would go back again the next night) touring a strikingly beautiful photography exhibit. I’m writing about “The Good Miami Project” exhibit by photographer Greg Clark for Artburst Miami. After that, I walked over to the Frost Science Museum, enjoyed a little snack and then walked through Maurice A. Ferre Park where I discovered the Dogs & Cats Walkway and some impressive sculptures on the waterfront.

Just some of the new food options for the new Miami Marlins season at LoanDepot Park.

Then it was off to LoanDepot park where the Miami Marlins were unveiling their new food options ahead of opening day on March 30. It was cool seeing food blogger Mitch Nover (@mmtakemiami) who was also at the event. Watching the players and being right on the field was a DEFINITE highlight.

Tuesday I went back to the Arsht Center with my friend Michelle where we were wowed with the Lincoln Center production of “My Fair Lady.” Before that we had dinner at Rincon Escondido, a little hole in the wall with lots of character where we had charcuterie, grilled octopus and mushroom croquettes.

I got to see another wonderful play “To Kill A Mockingbird” starring Richard Thomas (Johnboy on the 70s hit show “The Waltons”) in the lead role of Atticus Finch. It was a nice date night with my husband and it was also nice running into my South Florida on the Cheap Editor Teresa Mears.

Thought I’d also share my article about the documentary “A Glitch in the Matrix” by Miami native and UM alumni Rodney Ascher. I’ll be watching the free screening tomorrow night at UM’s Cosford Cinema. Click here to read the article and if you feel so inclined, RSVP for the screening.

Chapel at Barry University

And finally, today I spent a quite, meditative and relaxing afternoon at church at Barry University’s lovely chapel attending their noon mass. I plan to be there regularly from now on, it’s a great way to take a break from the busyness of life and quiet the mind.

This is his Instagram post (one of many) pleading for help. That’s Kevin in the baseball cap. Follow him on Instagram (@arrowfuentes) to read all about it.

I’m also trying to find a way to help local artist Kevin Arrow find help in restoring his 2004 Mandala at the Miami Beach Bandshell, his tribute/homage to the Beatles. It’s in disrepair and he’s pleading for the city to help with restoration efforts.

I’ve got much more to tell you about next week, just you wait. For now I bid you adieu until we meet again in your inbox next Friday. Thanks for reading and be well!
