Play ball, The Matrix and dinners

You know by now there will ALWAYS be dinners mentioned in my weekly blog. Plus other outings, sharing of articles and something cultural.

But did you know this week we’ll be entering The Matrix? Well, that’s what my husband and I sort of entered on our date night Saturday. We went to the Cosford Cinema on the University of Miami campus to watch the documentary “A Glitch in the Matrix” which I wrote about for Artburst Miami and shared a link to last week. It’s available to watch on Hulu. The movie is a weird head trip, check it out… if you dare.

Sunday at the ballpark watching the Miami Marlins LOSE to the New York Mets.

Nick in his weird birdman headgear, cheering on the Marlins. He’s always the loudest one in the section.

Sunday we headed to the ballpark where our friend Rick met us (he always joins us at the afternoon Sunday games) as we sat and watched the Marlins get crushed by the New York Mets. It didn’t help that as always, the New York fans were louder than the Miami fans. So annoying! But the game was still fun and the tacos I had from Naked Taco were pretty killer.

Ita, Michelle, me and Teri after lots of fun girl talk and dinner at Glass & Vine in Coconut Grove.

Monday night I had a lovely dinner at Coconut Grove’s Glass & Vine with my friends Michelle and Ita and my nephew’s wife Teri. It was great catching up with them in this gorgeous restaurant that I highly recommend. Have the chicken and black truffle gnocchi, that’s what I had, it was delicious.

Vance and I with our friends Michael and Liz from Chicago after enjoying cocktails at Minibar.

Tuesday night was another dinner night. We met our friends Liz and Michael who were in town from Chicago and staying on South Beach. Instead of hitting a trendy South Beach restaurant, I recommended we go to Puerto Sagua, a no-nonsense Cuban restaurant that’s been a fixture on South Beach for decades. The pollo a la plancha and rice and beans were great. So was the Lil’ Haiti cocktail at Minibar where we went for after dinner drinks. Minibar is South of Fifth street and one of my favorite places on the beach. Great low key ambiance.

Wednesday night we were back at it for Trivia Night at Old Tom’s where this week we took second place. There I had the mushroom swiss burger which was juicy perfection. And thanks to our trivia partners Kevin and Michelle who gifted us some delicious heirloom tomatoes from their garden.

One of my happiest moments this week was when I found out that local theater group Juggerknot Theater Company received a hefty grant from the Jorge Perez CreARTE Foundation because of an article I wrote!!! With that grant they’ve produced their latest immersive theater experience “Miami Bus Stories” which will be presented virtually to students in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Click here to read my article and here to learn about Juggerknot’s project.

And… I also had another article published on the Camillus House website, this one about an exhibition featuring the works of Camillus House clients with serious artistic talent. Click here to read it.

Then over on Artburst Miami read about a new photography exhibit at the Arsht Center and the latest outdoor art installation at MOCA in North Miami. Click on the links to read the articles.

I’m also happy to have attended daily mass this week in honor of Holy Week and blessings to all who celebrate Passover and Ramadan. It’s a convergence of religions this week which I feel is truly magical.

All the best, thanks for reading and see you next Friday!
