Thankful for…

Hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving and are looking forward to a nice weekend. Weather here in Miami has been pretty glorious so definitely thankful for that!

Was also excited and thankful that The Miami Book Fair was back in person. It was nice to attend the street fair last Sunday and stroll through rows and rows of books and listen to great local musical acts at The Porch like El Sol Tribu and Yoli Mayor. Other highlights included listening to Kathie Klarreich, founder of Exchange for Change’s prisoner creative writing program. She was part of an impressive panel that spoke about their latest book release Hear Us:
Writing from the Inside During the Time of COVID
featuring the essays and poems of the program’s participants. I also was thrilled to introduce myself to local author Edwidge Danticat, a Haitian author whose work I admire and who wrote the foreword for Hear Us and loved picking up a couple of great books at the Bookleggers Library stand.

I had the privilege to write about the E4C program for Artburst Miami (click here to read the article) and have been fascinated with the program ever since. I sent Kathie an e-mail to tell her how much I loved the presentation and was shocked when she asked if I would be interested in teaching the incarcerated participants. I’m definitely mulling it over.

I also wanted to share my latest article for Artburst Miami about another public art initiative, this one in Coral Gables that’s so colorful you won’t be able to take your eyes off it. The four murals adorning walls throughout Miracle Mile will bring a smile to your face and brighten your day. Click here to read the article.

Coming up this week I’m excited to be working at the Scope Art Fair, during Art Basel/Miami Art Week on Tuesday, Nov. 30 and Wednesday, Dec. 1 from noon to 3 p.m. I’ll be at Booth #CO13 showcasing the work R7 by Robert Young, a fine art photographer. Come by and say hi if you’ll be coming to the fair those days.

That’s all for this past week, I’m looking forward to letting you know how the Scope Art Fair went in next week’s post and also any other interesting encounters or new findings I have around Miami/South Florida.

Have a great week!
