A well deserved recognition and Thanksgiving Parade’s back!

I was elated this week when I found out Ken and Lauren Mason, the founders of Be The Change South Florida, would be featured on the Miami Proud segment on CBS4. They’re the couple that I help to distribute food to the community fridges around Miami (I’ve mentioned them in this blog before).

Lauren Mason is all smiles after packing her car with donations from Farm Share to take to the community fridges. (Facebook photo)

I’d pitched them to local producer Andrea Phillips-Lopez for Miami Proud and the segment finally ran this week. It was fantastic and gave the Masons some much needed recognition for the amazing work they do to help fight food insecurity and food waste. Click here to watch the segment and if you can help support them with a donation that would be great! You can find them on Instagram @bethechangesouthflorida.

Then I got some more good news from North Miami Councilman Scott Galvin who announced via his newsletter that the North Miami Winterfest Parade on Thanksgiving Day is back! It’s a tradition for the Gulliksen family to attend every year and I’m just so glad it will be back this year!

I was also excited to see my article on Paradis B&B (another spot I’ve mentioned frequently in this Blog) in this month’s edition of The Biscayne Times. Click here to read the article.

My new favorite drink the Western Sour made by a great bartender @thecitadelmia and some tasty bruschetta from @borti_pastabar

And I can’t close out this week’s post without mentioning food. Just this afternoon I found myself at The Citadel Food Hall where I enjoyed a delicious Western Sour cocktail and some delicious traditional bruschetta from Porti Pasta Bar. I’d never tried that drink and the wonderful bartender made it special for me and the bruschetta was made with the most delicious chewy/crunchy bread, fruity olive oil and juicy tomatoes with a hint of fresh basil. The perfect pre-dinner snack.

Next week I’ll tell you about a couple of articles I’m writing on public art initiatives in North Miami and Coral Gables and I’ll keep an eye out for any other fun happenings or sightings around Miami.

Have a wonderful weekend and week and thanks as always for reading!
