Eating, brews and artists
It was a busy, full week that’s for certain. Lots to tell you all about! I made notes about all of this as the week progressed so I wouldn’t forget!
First on my notes is the local Haitian-American artist Sophia Lacroix who I interviewed for an article this week. What a pleasant and talented individual. We had a lovely conversation and everyone will soon be able to see her beautiful, poignant artwork gracing the streets of North Miami. Click the link on her name to view her work and I’ll make sure to share a link to my article once it’s published.
For all the foodies reading this I want to let you know about a couple of great places I tried this week. The first was Union Kitchen & Bar in Wilton Manors, a great eclectic neighborhood in Broward. Tried some great dishes like the marinated goat cheese, grilled octopus, crispy Brussels sprouts and squid ink fettucine. I know that all sounds like a lot but the first three are small plates and the pasta was a half portion. Had all this with a delicious Prosecco Rose. I won’t bore you with the dish descriptions, I encourage you to visit the link I shared and see them for yourself. I dare you not to get hungry and drive there and try them for yourself! Plus, this was a dinner I enjoyed with Flavia, Zoe’s Mom, and my daughter Elizabeth’s best friend. We were dining while they enjoyed the Psychedelic Furs concert at the Culture Room just a few minutes away.
Today, I went to lunch with my husband Vance to one of our favorite spots that’s very close to his office, The Daily Creative Food Co. in the Downtown/Omni area. I love that everything on the menu is named after something relevant to writing/journalism. We had some great sandwiches... I chose the “Reporter” panini with turkey breast, melted pepper jack, caramelized onions, arugula and honey mustard on toasted ciabatta. My husband went for the chicken salad wrap.
Tonight, I kicked off the weekend with a couple of beers at our local brewery Lost City Brewing. I enjoyed their Lost Wit Belgian White Ale and Audrey II Hibiscus Saison. Both were very tasty and I ended up buying a couple of their beer glasses too. The crowd was nice, I chatted with lots of the locals and enjoyed the live music by singer/songwriter duo Towers of Babel and singer/songwriter Ben Moats. I even enjoyed a great little hot dog from the food truck parked outside. I have a sneaky suspicion this is going to become one of my local hangouts!
And finally, I loved getting some delicious sushi from Thai House II Restaurant in North Miami Beach and enjoying it al fresco at Greynolds Park for lunch a few days ago. It was such a gorgeous day and the view was amazing, just look at that image above!
Next week I’ll let you know if I finally remembered to buy tickets to the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert next August a band I have always wanted to see and also one of Nick’s favorites!
That’s it, until next week… be well and thanks for reading.
