Passionate about organic at North Miami Farmer's Market
Everyday I sit at my computer typing away, trying to keep fresh ideas flowing from my head, through to my fingers and on to the blank screen. This can easily result in brain overload and the dreaded writer's block. So in the hopes of avoiding this I recently decided to venture three blocks from my house to the MOCA Plaza where I usually go to volunteer at my community's namesake Museum. On this day though, I was headed there to check out the weekly Thursday Farmer's Market which happens from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. I was especially curious since each week that I drove by it seemed to be growing in popularity. What a pleasant surprise when I arrived and saw so many people engaged in conversation, buying the vendor's products and sampling their items. I made sure to visit every booth and learn a little about each one after all, that's part of the fun about a Farmer's Market. It gives you something to take away from the experience aside from your purchase.I quicky realized these people are passionate about what they're selling and serious about spreading the word on the importance of going organic. The woman from Proper Sausages allowed me to sample each one of her delicious varieties and I ended up buying the fig and blue cheese flavored one and cooking it up the minute I got home. It was fantastic. I also sampled a decadent vegan chocolate truffle and chewy, satisfying jerky made from grass-fed beef in a variety of flavors created with spices and other natural, wholesome ingredients. The granola from Laurie's Pantry, with too many varieties to mention, was cleverly created and blended to provide different health benefits. The one with nuts and seeds was particularly good.Just like with the farmers who sell their fresh produce, and there were a few of them represented as well, the items these folks sold had obviously been made that day. I was happy to have supported them in their efforts while also helping keep the Farmer's Market alive in my community. Next time you're in the area stop in for a quick sample. Trust me, you won't regret it and will count the days until you can return.
