Mofongo, rum and more

One of the highlights of this week has to be the rum tasting and mofongo making masterclass I attended at MiMo District’s La Placita Restaurant on Tuesday night. Chef Jose Mendin was on hand to teach us the fine art of mofongo making while rum ambassadors schooled us in all things about the island’s signature spirit.

The giant mortal & pestle we used to make mofongo at La Placita which we got to take home & little samples of some of the rums from the tasting with Rums of Puerto Rico.

It was nice sitting al fresco in Mendin’s lovely eatery that resembles all things he loves from his homeland of Puerto Rico. We made a rum-based pina colada and mashed away in a mortal and pestle to make the traditional Puerto Rican mofongo made with plantains, butter, olive oil, salt and pork belly.

This week I also had an article published in Artburst Miami on the Miami Mural Festival and local artist Daniel Fila AKA mural artist “Krave” who along with Mana Public Arts has elevated the mural game around Downtown Miami with. Click here to read the article.

I’m hoping to share another article or two next week right here in the Blog, expecting to see at least one published in Biscayne Times so stay tuned.

And today as I took a long walk through the neighborhood enjoying the beautiful weather and colorful foliage I couldn’t help but feel incredibly blessed that I have the privilege to walk freely in my country without fear of war. Praying for those poor souls in Ukraine.

I’ll see you next week once again in your inbox. Thanks for reading and keep praying.
