Food, food & more food!
I’m giving you fair warning, this week’s post will be heavy on the culinary with some family stuff thrown in as well as some cultural fun.
I kicked off Saturday with a busy day in the kitchen, preparing veggie, chicken salad and tuna salad sandwiches, as well as a hearty green salad with goat cheese, cherry tomatoes dressed in a homemade vinaigrette. I made a homemade lemon/garlic aioli to spread on the baguette that was filled with roasted red peppers and grilled zucchini (that was the veggie sandwich). My chicken salad had juicy, sweet red grapes and I made homemade chocolate chip cookies and brownies for dessert. It was all for a catering gig I was hired to do for Karen Peterson Dancers for a small reception following their workshop. Everyone loved the food and Karen told me she will be hiring me again! That’s exciting.
Right after that I headed to my sister Susy’s house where we headed to the Adrienne Arsht Center Downtown to see the musical “Six.” It was vibrant to say the least, with great dancing, vocals and plenty of bright lights on the stage. Very entertaining, a cool re-telling of Henry the VIII’s six wives.
The next day I went to lunch at Sergio’s with my sisters and nieces. My niece Nicole who lives in Merritt Island was in town. It was great also to see her sister, my niece Tiffany who is a flight attendant and always traveling. Best of all was seeing my great nieces and nephews! I got to spend lots of quality time with Mazen, Nicole’s younger son. He’s a riot!
I had a couple of great lunches this week too. On Wednesday, I went to Doral for a media preview lunch at Pisco y Nazca where they’ve got some new fall items. I met my friend Flavia there and we had a delicious lunch and were able to catch up. I’ll probably be writing about this for a website in the near future and will share that link. I highly recommend you try this spot, I’ve been a fan of theirs for years. Delicious Peruvian food.
Then on Thursday, I lunched with my bestie Monica at The Marlin Bar at Tommy Bahama at Dania Pointe in Dania Beach. We had some tasty coconut shrimp and my ahi tuna tacos with wasabi/avocado crema were delicious too. They were all new items on their menu.
I also forgot last week to tell you about my cousin Matt Cooper’s latest entrepreneurial venture Miami Soundscapes. Follow him on Instagram, he’s got some cool stuff planned!
If you love getting out and doing stuff, now’s prime time to do that in Miami. The Miami Book Fair’s happening in a couple of weeks and Art Basel is the first weekend of December. Go to South Florida on the Cheap to read up on those events and lots more. We’ve even got a link to free tickets to the Book Fair!
I warned you that this week would be food heavy! Tomorrow night I’m looking forward to seeing what will surely be a memorable and beautiful performance of “Romeo & Juliet” by Miami City Ballet. I’ll tell you all about it next week.
And here’s a few parting shots.
