Ballet, touristing and yes… food!

I have no idea if touristing is a word, it probably isn’t given that it’s underlined in red as I write this! But touristing is exactly what I did on Saturday.

Having the house to myself because my son Nicholas was spending the weekend at a friend’s house, my husband Vance was out of town and my daughter who is 18 was out as she usually is, I decided to play tourist…right near my house.

Grounds of the Ancient Spanish Monastery

I started off visiting the beautiful Ancient Spanish Monastery in North Miami Beach, exploring the beautiful grounds, lush gardens and spectacular architecture. Spent some meditative prayer time inside their chapel too. It was so calming.

Fish dip, fries and beer from The Blue Marlin Fish House Restaurant

View of Oleta River from The Blue Marlin Fish House

Then hunger struck so I headed to The Blue Marlin Fish House Restaurant by Oleta River State Park just a few minutes away. I sat right by the water enjoying a plate of fish dip, a basket of fries and a cold beer. The weather was absolutely glorious, it was the perfect lunch spot.

Finally, I HAD to go sit on the beach for a bit so I decided on Haulover Beach which was on my way home. There I sat and enjoyed looking out on the water watching lots of dogs play and swim (it’s a dog beach). That ocean breeze always gets me and it was nap city for a good 15-20 minutes.

The nap was much needed as that night I attended Miami City Ballet’s “Romeo & Juliet” with my friend Monica. After a mesmerizing performance, we headed just a few blocks from the Broward Center for the Performing Arts for a bite of Mexican fare at Bandoleros Taqueria in Fort Lauderdale.

Sunday was spent watching the Miami Dolphins squeak by and claim victory over the Chicago Bears. Oh, and my husband was in Chicago with his buddies watching the game at Soldier Field!

Monday came and I was in for a very busy week, writing articles, conducting interviews, updating web copy and actually submitting my short play to New City Players for consideration.

This week I’ve got a recommendation for you, the documentary “Last Flight Home” about the life of Eli Timoner, hometown hero and Founder of Air Florida. The award-winning film is screening Nov. 18-24 at Coral Gables Cinema.

Coming up next weekend is the always fun Miami Book Fair street fair, which I’m planning to attend with my sisters and my friend Monica. Tell you about it in a couple of weeks. Click here to check out the schedule.

And… click here to read my article on the upcoming YoungArts 2022-23 season.

Finally, I leave you with a view from Enchanted Forest Park’s Butterfly Garden which I visited this week and also of the many avocados my trees are still dropping on my back yard.

Thanks as always for reading and I’ll see you in your inbox next week.
