I finally finished…

an article that had been stumping me for a week or so. Lots of historical info and interview info to weed through that had me a bit intimidated but I’m happy to report that today… I finished it.

Now, on to the rest of it.

Nick, his girlfriend Ashley, friend Geno and a peer buddy at Best Buddies event at Pilo’s Tacos.

Last Saturday Nick had fun at Los Pilo’s Tacos in Brickell with his girlfriend Ashley and friends from Best Buddies while Vance and I finished packing up the car for our weekend getaway. On our way to pick up Nick we stopped at The Citadel for a bite (I had a delicious tuna poke bowl from Poke San) then we picked him up and headed to Vero Beach.

Chili/slaw hot dog from Casey’s Place in Vero Beach.

In Vero we enjoyed a simple dinner at Casey’s Place, a walk up window spot with outdoor seating where I enjoyed a delicious chili/slaw hot dog and then we had ice cream at Kilwin’s. Actually, I had a little chocolate truffle, Vance and Nick had sorbet and ice cream (respectively).

Us at McKee Botanical Garden

Tranquility and beauty at McKee Botanical Garden.

Stunning structure with the world’s longest table at McKee Botanical Garden.

The next day we enjoyed the lovely McKee Botanical Garden even though it was soooooo hot and humid. The surroundings were beautiful though. Then we had lunch at The Riverside Cafe, one of our favorites in the area. We then checked out of the hotel in Vero and headed south to Hutchinson Island where we would be spending Sunday night.

View from our room at the Marriott Resort (this was the room with working AC)

The beach at Marriott Resort Hutchinson Island.

The view from Shucker’s at Jensen Beach. Photo by Vance.

Although the AC wasn’t working properly we still enjoyed the beach and the pool at the lovely Marriott Resort Hutchinson Island Beach Resort Golf & Marina. That night we went to dinner at Shucker’s just a few minutes away in Jensen Beach and really enjoyed it. We sat out on the patio even though it was very hot, and the view was amazing. Had a really good tuna poke bowl here too. When we returned from dinner we did switch rooms and that was a wise choice. Working AC and a better view.

View from Hudson’s on the River in Stuart.

The next day Nick enjoyed the pool and then we checked out and headed home. We found a great spot for lunch, Hudson’s on the River in Stuart. We chose to sit outside under the tiki hut where there was a great waterfront and bridge view. Nick had an amazing hamburger and I ordered the yuca fries.

Taco Tuesday special at Bodega Taqueria y Tequila.

Me at Career Day.

Once we got back to Miami the remainder of the week consisted of lunch at Bodega Taqueria y Tequila in Aventura where I enjoyed their great Taco Tuesday special. 3 classic tacos for $11. At night I went and did my thing on stage, reading the part of narrator during the cold read workshop/script reading event Naked Angels Miami.

Wednesday night, Team Wutzler/Gulliksen took second place at trivia at Old Tom’s Cafe. The next day I participated in career day at St. Michael’s Catholic School where my sister Susy is the guidance counselor and organizes career day. And last night I went to a very interesting lecture/talk by journalist Jacqueline Charles, the Caribbean/Haiti correspondent for The Miami Herald. That was held at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center.

Today I grabbed a quick breakfast with my buddy George Neary at our usual spot Tinta y Cafe and then spent a wonderful morning interviewing Lou Anne Colodny for an upcoming article. She is an artist and a fixture in the City of North Miami and the woman responsible for bringing the Museum of Contemporary Art to North Miami. She was a fascinating interview.

I leave you with a parting photo of a beautiful flowering poinciana tree that I saw while on a walk with Vance tonight.

Thanks for reading and until next week, be well!
