Happy birthday Elizabeth
I have to kick off this week’s post with a big Happy Birthday wish to my daughter Elizabeth who turns 19 today. I got her some cute balloons, a gift card to Chipotle (her favorite place) and some adorable shoes she’s wanted for a really long time.
And now I’ll backtrack to last Saturday when we spent a fun afternoon having lunch at Fuddrucker’s. It was the perfect spot for Nick, the burger lover, to hang out with his high school buddy William. They had a great time and then that night we had more burgers at BurgerFi in Aventura, another request from Nicholas. I actually had a very good veggie burger at Fuddrucker’s and chicken tenders at BurgerFi.
Tuesday was a fun night out with my friend Janet. I invited her along to the Arsht Center where we saw Florida Grand Opera’s production of “Barber of Seville.” It was phenomenal, I’d never seen it before. I’m going to review it for Miami Artzine so I’ll share that link when the article is posted. And if you’re interested in seeing it, it’s going to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts May 18-20.
Yesterday I decided to pick up a new food rescue shift with Food Rescue US so, after having breakfast with fellow food rescue volunteer Claire, I headed to Kiki on the River, picked up the donation from their Chef Steve Rhee and drove it to the Miami Rescue Mission. Kiki on the River is a beautiful restaurant right on the Miami River that serves delicious Mediterranean food.
Then, on the way home I stopped in at the Emerson Dorsch Gallery to see their latest exhibition. It’s definitely worth a look so if you’re in the Little Haiti neighborhood, stop in. Click here to learn more about the show which will be up through June 3.
Then I walked across the street and picked up some delicious Argentinian empanadas at a great little spot called Sur. I hadn’t been to Sur in a while but the owner immediately recognized me and greeted me with a big smile. The food there is stellar.
Today was a blast at the Sandra De Lucca Developmental Center where Nick attends the Adult Day Training program. They hosted their annual Family Fun Day where parents come in to enjoy the day. We made art, played dominoes (Nick won two games!), played Bingo and even got in a little exercise. They served us a delicious Cinco de Mayo-inspired lunch from Taco Rico.
To close out today’s post, I’ll share a picture of my delicious breakfast from last week at Versailles which was actually used as the pick of the day in The New Tropic’s newsletter this week!
And finally, good luck to my great niece Isabelle and her lacrosse teammates from St. Stephen’s Episcopal who go up against American Heritage tonight for the state championship.
See you all next week!
