Eventful week
Hey everyone, lots to tell this week!
Probably one of the most adventurous days this week was at Hard Rock Stadium, riding around in a golf cart driven by a retired cop working security during the breakdown of the Grand Prix race. He was trying to help me find the volunteer group from Food Rescue US who were packing up leftover food from the event that was being delivered to shelters around the city. Unfortunately, we never found them but it was a blast motoring around in the cart and actually riding on what was the track for the event.
Speaking of the race, I also met a lovely couple from Nebraska staying at my neighbor’s Air BnB who were in town to attend the Grand Prix. I chatted it up with them and it made my day when they told me how much they liked the neighborhood and our house!
Wednesday morning I shadowed the group from Camillus House’s Lazarus Project. I rode around in the van with them checking in on the homeless that they visit daily to provide medication, mental health counseling and snacks. It was a humbling experience. I’m going to be writing about it soon and I’ll share the link. And speaking of Camillus House, here’s a link to an article I wrote about their partnership with American Airlines that’s now featured on their website.
This was also a great week for catching up with friends. On Tuesday I went to Tacocraft in South Miami with my friend Maria Cotta-Sanchez who I worked with at Miami Today the newspaper and my first job out of college. It was wonderful catching up with her over tacos on Taco Tuesday. So glad to reconnect with her, can’t wait to see her again. So many great memories.
Then yesterday I went to dinner with Claudia and Adhys my friends from high school. We enjoyed some great conversation and a tasty meal at Seasons 52 in Coral Gables. We definitely plan to do dinner again and make it a regular occurrence.
And finally, I snapped a shot of some pretty decorated benches and the frog fountain on Pioneer Blvd. in my North Miami neighborhood. I know my brother Mario, a North Miami alumni, remembers that fountain well.
That’s all for this week. I want to close by saying that May is Mental Health Awareness Month so please, call, text, e-mail, write or visit, whatever way you can, make it a point to stay in touch with your loved ones, check in on them often. It just takes but a minute of your time and it could truly make a difference.
Until next Friday, have a wonderful weekend and week and thanks for reading.
