Depeche Mode and more
Depeche Mode!!!!! I know I usually go in chronological order in this blog but this week, I have to start with last night’s concert at Kaseya Center. I’d never seen Depeche Mode, one of my favorite bands, the Godfathers of synth, dark, gothy cool. They’d been to Miami sooooo many times and finally, finally, I got to see them live and they didn’t disappoint. Frontman Dave Gahan was at his vibey, slithery, shake your money maker best, driving the audience into a frenzy. And his bandmate Martin Gore was a master switching from keyboards to guitar all night and even taking on lead vocals for a few of their biggest hits. It was an unforgettable night with my friend Monica by my side. It was a memorable night for sure.
Now…. on to the rest.
I spent Saturday morning at the Miami Film Lab Film Craft Series listening to the Oscar-winning movie and television film producer and Miami native Phil Lord talk about his career in Hollywood. He was funny, brutally honest, self-deprecating and downright genius in a disheveled way. Can’t wait until Nov. 4 when I get to hear my nephew Danny Davila share about his trajectory to success in production design.
Sunday was a super busy day. I got up early and took Nick to his Special Olympics softball game where they lost the first game. They were obliterated by a team of much bigger athletes who actually are a division ahead so the odds were against them. They did however win the second game.
After that, I got ready to head to New World School of the Arts where Monica and I attended the Daniel Lewis Dance Sampler. We watched in awe as 10 different dance troupes took the stage and performed everything from ballet to flamenco to contemporary to modern dance.
Then, as we always do, we went to get a bite to eat afterwards, this time to Uptown 66 Tacos on 66th St. and Biscayne Blvd. They were recently voted the Best Tacos in the US during a contest on Good Morning America and that was definitely deserved. Everything was delicious from the creamy guac and house made chips to the mushroom tacos. Michael actually worked with the Chef/Owner Nuno Grullon when they were both at R House Wynwood.
To cap off the week, tonight Vance and I had an amazing three-course dinner at the Ortanique Pop Up experience in Coral Gables. We dined with Kevin & Michelle and as always, laughed all night and enjoyed great wine and delicious food. I had the mushroom soup, followed by the grouper in a delicious light sauce over jasmine rice and asparagus and a cookie dough cake with salted caramel sauce for dessert. No pictures, just took time to enjoy the delicious food. The pinot grigio rose and Sauvignon Blanc wines were great accompaniments.
Tomorrow during the day I’ll be helping out Food Rescue US’s food distribution in Overtown then in the evening, we’ll see Kevin & Michelle again when we head to Emerson Dorsch Gallery’s Opening Night Reception for their latest exhibition, Jessica Gispert: Desvelos.
On Sunday, it’s off to Hard Rock Stadium with Nick to cheer on the Miami Dolphins who take on the Carolina Panthers. Can the Fins go 5-1?
Oh… and here’s a link to my latest article for Artburst Miami, I loved writing this one. Click here to read it.
That’s all for this week. Until next Friday… PEACE something I hope comes to many parts of the world as soon as possible.
