Big suit and witchy brunch

Nothing like a little late evening writing to wind down on a Friday night. Today was a bit all consuming but here I am nonetheless.

Let’s just call Saturday flashback to college day because that’s when Vance and I went to a matinee showing of one of the best concert films ever, the Talking Heads’ “Stop Making Sense.” Theirs was the soundtrack of my college years. I loved seeing it on the big screen. David Byrne doing his eggheady, awkward dances in that big suit and the amazing accompanying musicians on percussion and guitar and phenomenal back up singers. I danced in my seat the entire time. There were only two other women in the theater with us. It was a great afternoon. Then that night all four of us (Vance, Elizabeth, Nick and I) went to grab a bite at Dogma Grill, one of my favorite spots along Biscayne Blvd. in the MiMo District. I actually had a hot dog I’d never tried. And no Mario, they’re not better than Arbetter’s but they’re really good.

Girls ready for a Witchy Good Brunch at Ita’s house (that’s Ita in the purple shirt right up front)

Sunday I was invited to my friend Ita’s house for a Girls Witchy brunch where Michelle, Teri and I and a few other girls enjoyed a lovely brunch prepared by the hostess with the mostest. We wore witch hats, had delicious butternut squash soup, hearty cheesy meatball biscuits and delightful little orange pumpkin shaped mini cakes. All this while we watched the 90s flick “Practical Magic,” sipped on sangria and purple sparkly margaritas. It was a fun afternoon and we all left with a parting gift that included a lovely handmade scented candle and all other kinds of goodies. Thanks Ita for a fun afternoon.

Nick after several hours on the dance floor working up a sweat and having a blast

Joyce and I at the 50th Anniversary Gala, her son also attends the Adult Day Training Program at Sandra De Lucca.

Then last night, Nick and I got all dressed up and attended the Sandra De Lucca 50th Anniversary Gala at Jungle Island. It was a fancy affair with everyone dressed to the nines in gowns and suits. Nick danced all night and I got out on the dance floor too. It was nice to spend the evening honoring a place that is so special and has been so important in Nick’s life.

As for this weekend, tomorrow I’m attending Miami Film Lab’s first of four Filmcraft Series: Tales of Working Artists. I’m writing about the series for Artburst Miami and can’t wait until the Nov. 4th edition when I get to hear my nephew Danny speak about his career in production design. So proud of him!

And on Sunday I’ll be attending the Daniel Lewis Dance Sampler at New World School of the Arts. It’s a yearly event where 10 different dance companies grace the stage. Click here to read all about in our Artburst Miami article.

Plus, click here to read all of this week’s featured articles on Artburst Miami, it’s our weekly recap newsletter and a great chance to catch all that’s coming up in the arts world in Miami-Dade County.

Speaking of diving, I dove into this homemade dessert with layers of homemade whipped cream and chocolate pudding topped with crunchy nuts.

And stay tuned when next week I dive into all the great interviews I’ve had the pleasure of conducting, amazing conversations with some of Miami’s most talented playwrights and producers. I can’t wait to share it with you.
