Cuba’s still heartbreaking, and more

The images are still weighing heavy on me weeks later. How can they not with my social media feeds flooded with news, images, humanitarian efforts and articles about the horrific happenings in Cuba.

And right here in my city, I continue to try do my small part to help those less fortunate. It’s a mission I’m incredibly passionate about so…

Thursday I did my usual, cooking meals for St. James Baptist Church in Coconut Grove and then delivering food to the community fridges, this week to the ones in Hialeah. The residents were so thankful when they saw me arrive with the boxes of donated food.

This week I also dove deep into my assignment with Camillus House, interviewing lead clinicians about their multitude of programs. I also had the opportunity to interview one of their success stories, someone whose life was saved thanks to their program and who is now thriving instead of just surviving. I look forward to speaking to several more of their clients as I continue with this assignment that I’m so grateful came my way.

Today, I volunteered to deliver four bags filled with fresh bread from our own local Zak the Baker in Wynwood to the Miami Rescue Mission where they will serve them well. They’ll be able to feed lots of people nourishing sandwiches with that donation. It felt good to take that short drive and make that delivery on behalf of the non-profit organization Good Samaritan.

And next week begins my catering gig, cooking daily meals for a local film crew shooting a very important film. Luckily, the project is near my house so delivering those meals will be pretty simple. I look forward to spending lots of time in the kitchen cooking them the best, most delicious meals I can, as exhausting as I know it’s going to be.

I’m also hoping that a pitch I made to a local TV producer about the non-profit Be The Change South FL and the wonderful couple that started it, makes it into a local show about hometown heroes. They sure fit the bill. Fingers crossed I’ll be sharing that video with you in the coming weeks.

This week, I leave you with this amazing song, that came to me through an e-mail from The Miami Light Project. I listened and watched and was mesmerized, moved and humbled by this amazing song. I hope you love it as much as I did.

That’s all for now. As always, have a wonderful weekend and upcoming week. Stay well, stay safe, stay healthy and share love and kindness whenever and wherever possible. Our world could sure use it.
