And here we go
Starting off with that boat ride on Saturday night. Our friends Rick and Adina invited Vance and I and Kevin and Michelle (friends frequently mentioned in this blog) out on their boat through the Intracoastal in Fort Lauderdale where we arrived in style for dinner at Shooter’s Waterfront Restaurant. I swear, I felt like a celebrity arriving there by boat. It was surreal and seriously cool. It was a beautiful night with great friends admiring the waterfront mansions, having good food and conversation and lots of laughter.
Sunday we spent the afternoon at Casa Wutzler in their gorgeous pool and having a delicious barbecue dinner.
Tuesday I attended a ribbon cutting for the soon to be operating free North Miami Trolleys, a welcome addition to our city. They’re new and shiny with a nice color combination and free WiFi. They seat 32 passengers and are a big improvement over our previous local transportation option. It was very smart to host the event under a large shade tree at Griffing Park and have attendees sit under a tent. It was short and sweet and the entire thing lasted about half an hour.
Yesterday I brought three homemade cakes to Nick’s program to celebrate his upcoming 26th birthday. His actual birthday is Sept. 10 but he’s celebrating it in California where he’ll be cheering on the Dolphins for their season opener against the Chargers alongside Vance and Michael. To say that he’s excited for the trip and was excited and loving every minute of his party are both an understatement!
After the celebration I went for a solo lunch at one of my favorite off the beaten path spots in Little Havana Doce Provisions. The shrimp po’ boy tacos and tostones were delectable. I just love the vibe there!
Today I was busy interviewing another Camillus House client whose story I’m so excited to tell and one that I will surely share in this blog in the coming weeks. I also want to share my article on the Community Arts Program that was published in Artburst Miami last week, click here to read it. I was also ecstatic to see my profile on Miami Dade College’s Cultural Affairs Director on the cover of the Miami Herald’s Sunday Neighbors section. Click here to see my Facebook post about it.
And I have to mention my nephews Tony, Andy and Danny. Tony has finished an action-packed comic book that will be debuting later this year and Danny and Andy both worked on the recently released Comedy Central movie “Office Race.” They’re all so immensely talented and I’m one proud aunt!
Finally, I want to share the image above, which I saw as I was driving home and which really struck a chord with me. I actually drove home from Downtown Miami through Overtown then Wynwood and Little Haiti and was very impressed at the looks of Overtown and the many improvements made in that neighborhood. If you ever want to try some great soul food, stop in at ‘Lil Greenhouse Grill, an institution in Overtown. The food is fantastic. If I hadn’t been in such a hurry to get home for the phone interview I had scheduled, I would’ve stopped in.
And that’s all for this week. Next Friday I’ll tell you about the play I’m seeing tomorrow night and my trip with Nick to New York City to visit Michael. We get there Monday and come back on Thursday. I can’t wait.
That’s all for tonight and now I must get back to my television to finish watching this exciting US Open Semifinal tennis match.
Until next week!
