Doma's Southern Italian cuisine made with local, seasonal ingredients

When you read "local" and "seasonal" on a menu and then a name like Marco Giugliano as Executive Chef, you're certain to have a great meal. That's the case at Doma in Wynwood.

At Doma, they pride themselves on bringing out the season's best flavors through their dishes. They also offer a variety of options from three- or four-course menus for large groups as well as a prix fixe menu for $65. Details on these are on their website (you'll see the link to it at the end of this post).

Walking in, we were seated at a table directly adjacent to the open kitchen and I was thrilled. I love to watch the chefs and cooks in action.

Polenta bites with cream

Almost immediately, we (my husband and I) were brought a plate with two adorable polenta bites with cream. Don't let their small size fool you, they were packed with flavor.

A nice appetizer sampler was next including a tender meatball topped with tomato sauce and spicy provolone cheese and zucchini flowers tempura filled with ricotta and basil served with parmesan fondue with modena balsamic vinegar.

Soft egg

The soft egg appetizer is very generous and hard to stop eating. You'll want to keep digging in to wild mixed mushroom, parmesan cheese foam, crispy potato and shaved black truffle that top and surround the egg.

Same goes for the grilled octopus with spicy aioli, seasonal mushrooms, green peas, potatoes and balsamic vinegar. Great combination of flavors with the tang of the vinegar to balance it all.

You can't leave an Italian restaurant without trying the pasta and we sampled the tagliolini 'al tartufo nero' with black truffle, butter and parmesan cheese. Just read those ingredients and the words decadent, rich and satisfying I'm sure come to mind.

And the star of the night was the branzino with spinach, not only because it was delicate and delicious but for the tableside presentation. The fish comes wrapped in a crust that is carefully opened and once the fish is revealed, its expertly deboned right before your eyes. Unforgettable taste and experience.

Finally, our dessert sampler included homemade yogurt with apple, deconstructed chocolate mousse and cookies and a ladyfinger type sandwich filled with creamy chocolate all surrounded by dots of pistachio, raspberry and passion fruit sauces. Colorful and memorable.

The restaurant is elegant, understated with low-playing music (such a welcome change) and nice spacious indoor and outdoor patio seating.
