Doc B's Fresh Kitchen comes to Miracle Mile in Coral Gables

There are plenty of places to go for Happy Hour in the Gables and now there's another one, Doc B's Fresh Kitchen. Oh and it's great for lunch or dinner too.Their happy hour menu though is something you're gonna want to check out. It has a substantial 14-item menu and a variety of very reasonably priced beers and cocktails. They've got a nice communal table that's half inside, half out so it's great for people watching along Miracle Mile as well as inside Doc B's, depending which side of the table you sit on.I kicked off happy hour with The Dangler, a colorful orange cocktail made with Traverse City Whiskey, carrot juice and maple. While I sipped on my bright concoction, it was time to sample an array of both happy hour selections as well dishes from the regular menu. Candied bacon, presented jutting out of a snifter glass, was sticky, chewy, salty and sweet all in one bite. They really were like candy. Then it was on to the angry meatball a 100% Waguy beef meatball nestled in a small bowl surrounded by spicy tomato sauce and topped with fresh, smooth ricotta. They're served with simple light brown toast (just the way I like it done). The meatball was the perfect consistency, I couldn't stop eating it.I love that they oven roast their chicken wings which are baked in a 700 degree oven. I love it even more that they're topped with chimichurri sauce and reggiano, an interesting combo that's a delicious topping. Their kale slaw is a nice change from traditional coleslaw and the kale gives the salad plenty of body and depth while the chips and guac are also unconventional. They're serving a creamy, tasty guacamole not with tortilla chips but instead with their housemade sweet potato chips. It's a great combo and you'll want to order a second batch for sure. Then things got a bit Italian with their Italian sausage making a star appearance in two dishes. First in their Italian sausage pizza with marinara, kale and shredded mozzarella then in their thick, hearty rigatoni with spicy Italian sausage, green peas and kale in a traditional Italian "brodo," a light sauce that complements the ingredients perfectly. I loved how much they use kale in their recipes. It's a hearty green that gives them lots of versatility. Finally it was time for dessert and the creativity didn't stop when they brought out a Cinnamon Toast Crunch cheesecake. Yes, that cereal (c'mon I'm pretty sure everyone loves that cereal) is the crunchy topping on the dessert. They've also got great ice cream sandwiches made with either snickerdoodle or chocolate chip cookies. These dishes are just a tip of the iceberg when it comes to the menu. I tell you to be prepared to go back again and again to work your way through the menu. It's a virtual certainly that's what you'll be doing.Doc B's Fresh Kitchen, 301 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables, 784.864.1220, docbsfreshkitchen
