Welcome November!
And in welcoming November we get closer to Thanksgiving… yay!!! And then Christmas… YAYYYYYY!!! I love Christmas. However, I will say that I’m going to miss my carved pumpkin and Halloween decorations.
Anyways, let’s get to it. This week’s blog starts with last Saturday’s adventures which began with me volunteering at the Food Rescue South FL’s Farmer’s Market at a church in Little Haiti. It’s such rewarding work and I love the fellow volunteers. That was followed by a visit to The Things Lab Miami, a quirky, packed, out of the way spot in Little River (check out their Instagram which I’ve linked above) to take a look at this thrift store/bartering/stuff of every kind place. I really don’t know how else to describe it, I liked it so much. And above I shared the sign outside their store about an event they’re hosting “Reusapalooza” on Nov. 9. If you’re into swapping and cheap finds, repairing, reusing and repurposing items I recommend it.
Now onto Saturday night where Vance and I were invited to two different parties and we managed to make it to both. The first was a wedding celebration for Michael’s best friend Connor and his wife Mackenzie. It was a lovely gathering at Richardson Historic Park and Nature Preserve in Wilton Manors. It was such a lovely discovery and I can’t wait to check this park out during the day. Then we said our goodbyes and made our way to Rick and Adina’s house for their Halloween party. Although we weren’t there long, it was still fun to hang out with them and the Wutzlers and other friends, shooting the breeze and enjoying a cocktail and dessert.
Sunday, while Nick and Vance were watching the Miami Dolphins lose yet again at Hard Rock Stadium, I decided to head to Shucker’s Waterfront Bar & Grill one last time. It was closing day for them and I was fortunate enough to get a seat at the bar and enjoy one final order of fish dip and a Shock Top draft. I got a nifty blue cup, their parting gift to all the patrons. I’m gonna miss that place and the amazing view off 79 St. Causeway.
Monday morning was great because I got to catch up with my friend Marcia Gomez. We try to meet for breakfast every few months at Latin Cafe 2000 on LeJeune Road. We always have so much to chat about both personal and professional stuff.
Tuesday I attended the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Annual Meeting held at the Hilton Miami Downtown. Although the meeting dragged on a bit it was great to see so many familiar faces gathered in the same place. I set next to the always entertaining George Neary who wore his bedazzled cap and shoes in true flashy fashion.
Wednesday I met a really nice couple Cookie and Paul from Food Rescue who were dropping off Trader Joe’s Miami Beach donations to Village Freedge in Liberty City at the same time I was bringing my donations from the Coral Gables location.
And yesterday I decided to play (yes, almost a day off). After dropping Nicholas off at his program, I came home and decided to walk and get some errands done. After a walk to my nearby Walgreens, I popped into the Red, White & Blue Thrift Store and picked up an adorable and impeccably maintained Ann Taylor purse for $14.99. Picked up a cute cardigan too for $2.99. Then I walked over to MOCA where I was happy to see them replacing the diseased palm trees with healthy new ones on the plaza. Unfortunately, the museum was closed for an exhibit install but I did manage to snap a pic of a lovely Art on the Plaza installation also pictured above.
My final adventure of the day was going to the movies. I went to see the animated film “Wild Robot” which I’d wanted to see since I saw the preview. I had the theater at Aventura Mall all to myself which was so great. The movie was amazing. After, I walked around a bit and popped into Bath & Body Works and got a little something for Elizabeth.
And finally tonight, Vance and I have a date night planned to Cooper’s Hawk & Winery at Dania Pointe. I like Cooper’s Hawk a lot and am looking forward to a really nice meal and then a walk around the open-air mall/entertainment complex.
As always, I like to share all my articles so here’s one I recently wrote for Artburst Miami. I wrote it as a way to help arts groups and artists find grant opportunities, something they desperately need nowadays. Click here to read it.
That’ll do it! I’ll see you here next Friday when I will most likely be writing my blog from Cape Canaveral again!
