Back in the Space Coast
I might be writing lots of these blogs from the Cape Canaveral area and that’s OK with me. It’s really quiet up here and I don’t mind the change at all.
As I usually do, let’s kick it off with last Friday’s date night with Vance when we dined at Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant. I’d been to some of the other locations before but not to this one at Dania Pointe and it was hopping with a wine tasting and lots of diners. He had the surf & turf and I had chicken and pasta. We also had a nice flatbread as an appetizer. Afterwards, we spent some time chatting with the sommelier in their wine/gift shop where I bought a few cute Christmas presents and a delicious dark chocolate truffle that I enjoyed at home for dessert.
Then, let’s skip to Monday when I went to Nick’s practice softball game in Doral. He did really well, getting several hits and RBI’s. It was their final practice game before this weekend’s competition, the Special Olympics State Fall Classic in Orlando.
Wednesday night I attended an artist panel discussion as part of the 50th Anniversary of Miami-Dade County’s Art in Public Places Program. It was held at the Perez Art Museum Miami in Downtown, in their auditorium. We listened to several artists discuss their process when creating their public artworks which was fascinating. It was a dynamic group of Miami’s most celebrated artists, being vulnerable and funny. Afterwards I met some great ladies during the reception which was held on PAMM’s gorgeous bayfront open-air patio.
Yesterday, after a good morning powerwalk, I packed up my car for my trek up here to Cape Canaveral. On the way, I met my friend Monica for lunch at Dania Pointe (popular place in this week’s blog!) It was conveniently on my way so it worked out great. We ate at Pura Vida where I had their chicken wrap which is served with their green sauce. That sauce takes that sandwich to another level, and the sandwich is great already!
Today, I met my niece Nicole for breakfast at the 4th St. Filling Station in Cocoa Beach. We sat on the patio and had a great time, except for the chatterbox guy sitting next to us who kept interjecting when she and I were trying to converse and catch up. When chatty chatterson eventually left, we were able to really laugh, talk and enjoy each other’s company.
On the way to meet her, I’d driven by a Nature Preserve so I decided on my way back to Vance’s apartment, I’d stop there for a little nature walk. What a great decision, because what I discovered was the Maritime Hammock Preserve in Cocoa Beach. I walked, sat and admired the view and then headed back to the apartment to drop off my breakfast leftovers.
I then got back in my car and headed to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando where Elizabeth met me and we watched Nick and his City of Miami Magic team win their game 13-7. We’ll be back there tomorrow to watch him play again. Hoping for another victory.
Afterwards, Elizabeth grabbed a really late lunch (early dinner?) at Metro Diner off Osceola Parkway in Orlando. She had the huevos rancheros and I had avocado toast. Wish I’d snapped a picture of her dish because the presentation was really nice. I loved spending the day with her. Can’t wait to see her again tomorrow.
And finally, here’s my latest published article, this one about a few upcoming performances around South Florida by the US Air Force Band Airmen of Note. Click here to read it.
And here’s a parting shot of today’s sunset. Have a wonderful weekend and see you again next Friday.
