Welcome August!
And it just gets hotter by the day here in Miami but that’s August for ya! I’m writing this as my television is set permanently to NBC so I don’t miss any part of the Summer Olympics! So exciting and it’s so awesome that my nephew Andy is there enjoying the games. Check out the picture below.
Well since we were last together, in your collective inboxes, here’s what I’ve got to tell ya…
If you’re in Miami and you get the chance, go see “The Little Mermaid” presented by Area Stage at Sunset Place in South Miami. They’re putting on a very creative, interactive/immersive play version of the beloved Disney classic and it’s magical. Click here to read the Artburst Miami review. I went to see it with my sister Ana and before the play we went a few blocks down the street to have dinner at Sushi Maki where we enjoyed tasty sushi at happy hour prices!
Sunday I was glued to the television watching the Olympics, taking it all in and enjoying every minute of it.
Monday I saw an amazing film at the Coral Gables Art Cinema with my nephew’s wife Teri and our friend Ita. “Widow Clicquot” is the story of Barbe-Nicole Clicquot who defied all odds and in the late 18th century persevered in the very male-dominated world of wine making to become a champagne pioneer whose methods of developing the bubbly are still used today.
Yesterday, I treated myself to a solo Miami Spice lunch at North Italia in Aventura. Miami Spice is a two-month program run by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau where some of Miami’s best restaurants offer three-course meals at specialty prices. It kicked off yesterday and runs until Sept. 30. Check out what I ate in the pictures above and click on the second link to read descriptions of the dishes I chose. I took half of each course home and enjoyed the second frittatine for lunch today and plan to have the chicken pesto tonight.
And last night, I had the honor of attending the renaming ceremony of the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center in Liberty City. The auditorium was packed as everyone came out to honor the man himself, Marshall Davis, Sr. whose name will now grace the building. I had the privilege to interview Mr. Davis twice, one for a profile highlighting his amazing career and then for yesterday’s renaming ceremony. It was truly an honor because the man is a legend who has been impacting and changing lives through his work at the center over the last 40 years. Click here to read the profile and click here to read about the renaming ceremony.
This weekend, I’m already looking forward to tomorrow night and watching my great niece Kaitlyn in her Miami Girls Rock Camp finale performance. And below is a photo sent from Vance of his view from a Princess Cruise Lines ship, he’s on a business trip to Alaska. Gorgeous isn’t it?
And I leave you with that. Until next week… be well and stay zen.
