Thursdays have become a thing
For a while now…
Thursdays have become a thing.
A thing like…
Cooking meals for St. James Baptist Church in Coconut Grove, a connection I made through the people that run OOJEE App and their food distribution efforts during the height of the pandemic. I look forward to seeing Pastor Williams as he greets me with his appreciative smile as I deliver the 25 individually packed meals around noon for the hungry folks that come there on Thursdays to get a meal.
Delivering food to the various Community Fridges around Miami. I mentioned the MIA Buddy System non-profit who manage the Miami Community Fridges around the city in a post a few weeks back. Well now I’m volunteering to distribute large loads of donated food to those fridges on behalf of the couple who run the non-profit Be The Change South Florida, click here to check them out on Instagram. It’s run by husband and wife Kenneth and Lauren Mason who live in Kendall and are always looking for help distributing to the fridges further north. So far I’ve helped them with the fridges in Wynwood, Little Haiti and Hialeah. The folks in these underserved communities need these food resources which is obvious by how quickly the fridges need to be re-stocked.
It’s hard work but because it’s so rewarding, it just doesn’t feel like work. I’m hoping to find more volunteer work like this because honestly, it’s what I’d like to do full time.
That’s it for this week, I’m keeping it short and sweet. Next week, I’ll be sharing the story of the inspiring people I’ve met through Best Buddies.
Until then, have a great weekend and an even better week after that. Many blessings and thanks for reading!
