Enjoying the little things
I’ve been feeling this coming on for some time now. The fact that I love my slower pace.
My mom always called me “una callejera,” meaning I was always out and about and although I’m not a homebody, I certainly have come to enjoy being home.
It’s definitely in line with me wanting to retire.
Some personal observations:
Thursday mornings, when I’m cooking homemade meals for St. James Baptist Church in Coconut Grove are something I really look forward to and getting to know Pastor Williams has been a real treat and a blessing.
I have made going out in my backyard a daily ritual. I love checking on my plants and “vegetable” garden (if you call a two cherry tomato yield a garden!). But seriously, I love watering the yard, adding new cuttings in different areas to add color and beauty and just spending time admiring all the greenery.
I enjoy going to mass during the week, it’s brought me a renewed sense of peace and spirituality. The church is not crowded so early in the morning and the quiet service puts me at ease.
Those long walks Vance and I adopted during 2020 have become a favorite of mine. We still go on our walks but I’ve started walking on my own too. I love exploring the neighborhood and taking in the scenery, especially the streets with huge trees, particularly those bursting with colorful flowers. The Royal Poincianas are breathtaking and I’ve even found a great bench to sit and relax at midway through my walk under you guessed it, one of those fiery red RP trees.
What conclusion have I drawn? I’m happy and content with much less. Age makes that happen I guess and I’m loving it.
Until next week, wishing you much happiness and contentment and always peace.
