This week’s happenings

This week kicked off great. Even though I was still flying solo here at home, my husband is still on a business trip, he gets back Sunday night, I had a few memorable moments.

I finally got a tour of the amazing Miami Lighthouse for the Blind campus in Little Havana. I met one of their art teachers Aaron Hill and their dynamo President & CEO Virginia Jacko. I was so impressed with the variety of programming they offer including art and music classes, as well as Pre-K classes and even a culinary program. I’m looking forward to helping them in the near future with some community outreach efforts. And I’m going to help them right now by encouraging you to vote for their artwork titled “Save the Earth and ‘See’ Turtles” which is entered in the Local 10 News Earth Day Art Contest. Click here to vote until April 10.

Tacos from El Santo Taqueria in Little Havana

That same day I grabbed lunch at El Santo Taqueria in Little Havana. Aside from the delicious veggie and chicken tacos I enjoyed, I loved observing a couple sitting across from me. They were clearly on vacation and happily sipping on cold draft beers.

Burger and fries from The Food Truck Store (TFTS) in North Miami

Then yesterday, I enjoyed a delicious cheeseburger and fries at The Food Truck Store, right here in my neighborhood. The juicy delicious burger which I ordered with sauteed onions was perfection and so were the abundance of fries they serve with it.

And on Saturday night, my sister Susy and I had an incredible experience after watching the play Anastasia at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. A young girl from the audience stuck around afterwards and decided to grace us with her rendition of the play’s most iconic song “Once Upon a December.” Her powerful voice gave me chills. It was such a treat to watch her belt out a snippet of the song.

Finally, today I had the honor and privilege of interviewing Bob Dickinson, chairman emeritus and former Board chair of Camillus House as well as former President of Carnival Cruise Line, for another article I’m writing for the CH website.

That’s all for this week. Hope you’ve had a good week and are looking forward to enjoying your weekend. As always, thanks for reading!
