Taking time to admire nature...the right way
The oddest thing happened the other day, I was sitting in my car getting ready to back out of a parking space at Target when across from me perched on another car's hood was a bird with a worm in its mouth. Then in an instant, it was gone, flown away to enjoy its newly snatched tasty snack. For some reason that quick bond with nature, in such an odd space as a parking lot, reminded me of a film I once saw at Key West's Eco-Discovery Center. It actually focused on the correct way to admire nature. In it, the narrator explained that many times we are approaching this practice entirely the wrong way. Instead of moving around trying to "find" nature it is best to simply sit back, relax and let nature find you. In other words, simply sitting or laying still and observing anything -- a tree, the grass, a pond -- creatures will eventually make their way into your line of vision.Ever since I watched that film I've followed that practice and sure enough, I always catch lizards, bugs, birds and the like just going about their day and I get to reap all the benefits of simply observing them and watching nature do its thing right before my eyes.
