Freedom Tower's put to good use

It was nostalgic for me to step into the Freedom Tower a few weeks ago to take in a fantastic exhibition on display there. Yes, an exhibition. The historic, magical and sentimental building is now part of Miami-Dade College and houses the school's Museum of Art + Design.notebooksI'd already missed a few other exhibitions they'd shown there so I was bound and determined to see this one after a Facebook friend posted photos of the great exhibitions displayed there. The fashion exhibit, marionette piece by Pablo Cano, reptiles crawling up the outside of the building and climbing the stairs inside and the mesmerizing notebooks and journals showcased were fascinating but better still was where they were being shown. This historic structure is such an icon in Miami, once a beacon of hope for the newly arrived. I always joke that my mother walked through those doors to get the "government cheese." I was just amazed at its architectural beauty and what has been a painstaking effort to keep it alive.I personally want to thank all who were involved in that effort and of course now to Miami-Dade College, a school I'm proud to say I attended, for putting it to such good use.
