Seek and you shall find great food here
A newcomer to Downtown Coral Gables, Seek + Find on Ponce de Leon Blvd. (in the old Anacapri space) brings a completely different feel to the area's restaurant scene.
They recently launched a new menu, carefully curated by Executive Chef Miguel Fernandez, who is fusing his Peruvian roots with global flavors from India as well as other South American influences. His resume includes stints in Napa and around South America (hence those influences!)
Kicking off lunch with a glass of wine is always nice and this day, I chose a lovely glass of rosé. No regrets there.
Then it was on to looking over the menu and making a decision was not easy, but we managed.
My sister and I chose the grilled octopus served over creamy, spicy mashed potatoes in panca sauce and tomato chalaquita. Tender bites of octopus married with a hint of smooth from the potatoes and zingy flavor from the tomatoes.
I couldn't resist, I had to order the causa. Chef Fernandez tops the perfect round of whipped potato cake with fresh crab salad, a layer of bright green avocado, fish chicharron, salsa criolla and orange aioli. The combination of Peruvian potato (they have hundreds of varieties) combined with the zippy salsa and citrusy aioli was truly unique.
The Indian scampi featured succulent, juicy prawns sauteed in garlic and served in a coconut milk with the traditional Indian spice garam masala. The crusty, crispy, crunchy crostini were the perfect vehicle for sopping up the delicious sauce.
And who can resist scallops on any menu, not me! Yes, this dish of seared U-10 scallops also features the spicy mashed potatoes (I have no problem with that) along with maple syrup and spicy Asian sauce and is topped with green onions and sweet potato shoestrings. Love the change up of sweet potato for the shoestrings and combining maple with Asian sauce? Fernandez is truly committed to combinations that will surprise and please any palate.
Come in for an elevated menu while dining among decor that's funky and has a different vibe than anything you'll find in the Gables.
