Raise your margarita to Rocco's Tacos Happy Hour

Rocco's Tacos & Tequila Bar is an institution in the Mexican restaurant game with locations throughout Florida and I recently got to finally try the happy hour at their Las Olas location. Having owner Rocco Mangel as our host for the night was a nice bonus.

Rocco shared his story of how he came to own Rocco's Tacos after a somewhat rocky start in the hospitality biz but where he's made a very successful career. It was a truly touching moment. Then he got serious and proceeded to make some of his scrumptious guacamole, his own recipe that he shared with us.

Then the eating fest was on, first with...

Chips and salsa...crunchy and homemade, both the chips which are sprinkled with their special Rocco's seasoning (which they sell) and the zippy salsas. There's the simple house sauce with tomato, onion and cilantro; the verde with tomatillo and jalapeno and rojo with roasted chiles and red peppers.

Then on to crudites with the special Rocco's sauce, or better described as "I can't stop eating it, can I have a bigger bowl please?" Tex-Mex cheese dip.

Followed by empanadas filled with ground beef and other goodies served with a chipotle aioli for dipping.

And finally, ALL the tacos! Some were filled with beef, others pork, some with mushroom and yet others with chicken. All were juicy, tender and loaded with cilantro, red onions and cotija cheese, just like I like 'em.

To end it all, a dessert sampler with churros, ice cream, crispy sweet tortillas and all kinds of decadent shaved chocolate and meringue. It's a true thing of beauty.

You'll love the decor too, the bar, the lighting, the atmosphere, it's just fun and inviting. Do yourself a favor, click on the link below, check out the Happy Hour Menu and I guarantee you'll be making plans to get to Rocco's sooner than later.
