No "yolking" around at Egg Spot, Downtown Miami's new eatery

The Butcher Shop is an institution in Wynwood, and one that I've loved for years. When news broke that their owners were opening a new concept The Egg Spot in Downtown Miami, I was "eggcited" to try it (ok, I'll take it easy on the puns).

I love going to Downtown regardless, always have, so the opportunity to go there and eat, we're talking win win! The atmosphere is really cute and you can dine inside or al fresco and believe me, there's much more here than eggs.

Right off the bat, their website touts it as a "breakfast, brunch and lunch spot" and the photo and menu will have you running over there to grab a bite. Here's what I sampled:

The Loxsmith, an "everything" brioche bun spread with cream cheese and layered with smoked salmon, red onions and capers. Bagels and lox is one of my all-time favorite breakfast items and the brioche bun was a great substitute for the bagel.

I'm not a huge fan of beets but gave their beet salad a try. It's peppery arugula topped with goat cheese, roasted beets and candied walnuts all tossed in a sherry vinaigrette. It was good and is a great option for lunch or brunch.

Once the loaded tots came out well, let's just say, my fork kept finding it's way into that bowl. Maybe because the crispy potato rounds are topped with a Bechamel cheddar cheese sauce, crispy bacon and oniony chives. The perfect combo, I mean perfect.

Then, they brought out a delectable, chewy and very substantial chocolate chip cookie. This is my absolute favorite cookie flavor and this one didn't disappoint.

I can't wait to go back and try the chicken 'n waffles which are made with sweet potato waffles and look fantastic and the power bowl with egg and vegetable fried quinoa, ginger roasted butternut squash, kale and beet sprouts all tossed in a tamari vinaigrette. I saw both of these go by and get delivered to other tables and was quite jealous.

Next time you're in Downtown drop in at The Egg Spot for these and any of their other tasty dishes. You'll find yourself wanting to come back before you're even done.
