Ooey, gooey goodness at Daily Melt

James Beard award-winning chef Allen Susser, who put his New World Cuisine and Miami on the culinary map, is keeping things a little simpler nowadays.A definite departure from his former high-end restaurant Chef Allen’s which was a fixture of Miami’s burgeoning restaurant scene for two decades, Susser is now all about the comfort food, particularly grilled cheeses, at his Midtown spot Daily Melt. This is still Chef Allen Susser though and his thirst for food evolution and new flavors never ceases and that’s evident with the many new sandwiches he’s introducing at his casual eatery.First off, he’s not using the traditional, hum-drum sliced white bread, he’s nestling incredible ingredients between slices of herb foccacia and French demi rolls. His killer combos include a prosciutto with slow-roasted tomato, mozzarella and basil pesto and the bacon melt with cheddar, crispy bacon, baby spinach, roma tomato and white truffle butter.Either of those goes great with a “soup shot” of roasted garlic tomato or mushroom brie, two of their specialty soups. And now he’s venturing into pickle making, proudly displaying his six varieties in jars behind the ordering counter. Flavors include sea salt dill, lemon ginger, lime chipotle, hot ‘n sassy, mojo and kickin’ Asian.Check out Daily Melt at The Shops at Midtown, 3401 N. Miami Ave.
