Oh, the people I meet

For three years, I've been writing articles for MyCityEats Magazine. Although the publication is all advertisements I write the advertorial copy more like an article. Can't help it, the interview part is one of my favorite aspects of being a writer. With that said, I plan, through this blog, to begin sharing interesting stories (or at least I hope you find them interesting) about folks I've met and interviewed. Now, I'm no Barbara Walters and am not attempting to compile this into a "Most Fascinating People" list, God help us all! But these are folks that stick out in my mind and ones that struck a chord, for some reason or another.I start this "series" off with the General Manager of the ever-popular Los Ranchos restaurant franchise in Miami. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to discover what I did during that conversation. We're running through the usual questions, history of the restaurant, expansions to the franchise, most popular dishes, etc...As he proceeded to tell me the names of the group of owners one of them grabs my attention. I hear the surname Somoza in the list of names and casually ask a little history on how they came together to become owners. Turns out, the Somoza he mentioned is son of Nicaragua's infamous former leader Anastasio Somoza. The rest of the interview was interesting and gave me some fantastic insight into the franchise but that discovery was what really captivated me and grabbed my attention.I immediately called my husband to let him know what I had found out, I wanted to share the news  while it was still fresh in my mind. It's uncovering little nuggets of information like this that really get me jazzed about the possibilities of a casual interview conversation. This is just the first of many great stories I plan to share so stay tuned, there's more to come...
