Not much to say

But I’ll say stuff anyways.

Since last Friday I…

Charleston sunset along Bay Street.

Horse drawn carriage tour in Charleston.

Views at the Magnolia Plantation & Gardens in Charleston.

Lovely tea service at East Bay Meeting House in Charleston.

Monica, me and Gema having dinner at Brasserie La Banque in Charleston.

Spent the weekend in Charleston, SC on a girls’ weekend getaway, a tradition that my friends Monica, Gema and I began way back when with our very first getaway to New Orleans. This was our first trip together since we went to San Francisco in 2019. It was such a treat to spend three days wandering the streets of beautiful Charleston where we took a walking history tour, a horse-drawn carriage history tour, a tour of the famous Magnolia Plantation and ate some of the best food we’ve ever had. We enjoyed some great cocktails too and lovely accommodations at 20 South Battery, a gorgeous historic inn where we enjoyed their daily complimentary breakfast and happy hour. Lots of glasses were clinked, cobblestone and cracked streets traversed, colorful homes admired and photographed and bayfront walks taken.

My own tea service at home... egg salad on whole wheat, curry chicken salad on brioche plus, ginger cookies and pecans from the Magnolia Plantation gift shop in Charleston.

The rest of the week was very quiet with minimal work done (I loved that) leaving time for making lots of tasty homemade lunches like a curry chicken salad one day and chicken noodle soup yesterday.

Tonight I thought I was headed to Marco Island to watch my nephew Chris coach but he just informed me that the game was cancelled. He’s got a few games remaining so I’ll try to make it to one before the season is over.

Tomorrow I’m going to Bridge Red Studios to view a video installation by media artist Barron Sherer. I’ve gotten to know Barron a bit after writing about his projects a few different times and also profiling his wife Gendry. Looking forward to seeing his “suite of new motion picture-based work for 16mm, digital projection, analog monitors and 35mm slides,” as it is described on the website. No matter what, if it’s a project by Barron it’s going to be cool.

I might also pop by Edge Zones and check out an event they’re having tomorrow as well. I’m sure by now you’ve noticed that these places get regular mentions in this blog, probably because I’ve become a fan of what they do!

I also encourage you to check out the Season of the Arts section in the Miami Herald. I’m not sure if it’s available to non-subscribers but I wanted to share because I helped put together the theater section and also because it’s a great resource for everything arts in Miami-Dade for the upcoming cultural season.

That’s all for this week. I’ll see you right back here next Friday. Until then… be well and have a good weekend.
