My triumphant return

That’s quite a dramatic headline and all it means is to this blog since I took last week off because I was…

Enjoying a concert by Nestor Torres at the Westchester Cultural Arts Center with my sister Maria. He put on a fantastic show.

Lounging and discovering a publication put out by the Black Men Build organization at my neighborhood coffee and book shop Paradis Books & Bread. Click on the link above to learn more about BMB.

8mm film installation at Art Basel

Installation by Edouard Duval-Carrie over Española Way on Miami Beach

Busy checking out Art Basel at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Design Miami and beautiful art at the Sagamore and Shelborne Hotels. I’ve got the 19,000+ steps recorded on my phone’s Health app to prove it. It was a great show. Above are photos of a couple of my favorite things from that day including an incredibly creative and poignant installation featuring 8mm film projections of civil unrest in early 1900s Argentina and the colorful installation dangling over Miami Beach’s Española Way created by local Haitian artist Edouard Duval-Carrie.

Our big, crazy, fun family celebrating the birthday girl at Epcot

Having a blast celebrating my niece Elena’s 40th birthday at Walt Disney World kicking off Friday night at the Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Saturday at Epcot where we ate and drank and rode a few rides. We were a BIG group (the photo above is proof).

Sitting mesmerized and overjoyed while watching the Broadway show “Hadestown“ at the Adrienne Arsht Center. Went to see it with my daughter Elizabeth on opening night. We were transfixed at the music, choreography, lighting, sets and amazing talent of the actors that transported us to another place. That’s a show I’ll never forget and one my daughter says is now her new favorite. We’d been looking forward to seeing it for a while and it lived up to the hype.

Laughing my butt off and loving the journey local actress Susie K. Taylor took me and the rest of us in the audience last night at her one woman show “Jewbana.” Raw, honest, funny, vulnerable…Susie was all those things. Thanks for inviting me along. Sitting with Tanya Bravo, the mastermind behind Juggerknot Theatre Co. to watch it all unfold was a great bonus.

I want to also share my profile on Gladys Ramirez, the new Executive Director at City Theatre. I thoroughly enjoyed that interview and was happy to bring it to our Artburst Miami readers. Click here to read it.

Tonight I’m headed to celebrate my friend Flavia’s birthday at the reimagined Tobacco Road. I’m sure it’s going to be a great time! Then tomorrow my best friend Monica is treating me to lunch at Le Jardinier, the Michelin star restaurant in the Design District I’ve been dying to try. It’s my birthday on Sunday so she’s taking me out to a fancy meal!

Until next week, be well and thanks for reading.
