My fascination with NYC

I can’t recall when it started, my fascination with New York City, but I know it began at a young age. Probably in my early teens.

It was then that I began dreaming of the day I would become a translator for the United Nations. Before that, I aspired to be a chemist. All those bubbling beakers in a lab and time spent peering through a microscope. Seemed interesting at the time but, no way I could do the math!

The NYC and United Nations bug never left me though. Something about that building with the flags out front, flapping in the wind. The intrigue of international relations. Sitting in that huge room, wearing those headphones and having the inside scoop on world affairs.

Well, that never materialized either but my love of New York City never went away, it still hasn’t.

Something about it, it’s so many things rolled into one.

It’s…

Tough, gritty and yes grimy but also…

Elegant, suave and debonair and…

Fast, sleek and bright but also…

Green, lush and grand and most of all…

Larger than life

Every time I’m there, I have to pause and admire those long NYC blocks. The endless stoops and greenery between them that gives the dark buildings a pop of color. Even the fire escapes are cool.

I still remember the car ride on Riverside Dr., it absolutely made me fall in love with that area. The waterfront view was breathtaking. Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge was definitely another highlight and finally getting to MOMA and spending the day there yet another.

It’s obvious I want to get back there. I mean I’ve yet to take a tour of the United Nations building but one day I’ll finally get there. Yes, I’m a nerd, it’s on my bucket list.

When I visit, the city gets in my bones, reaches down into my soul and doesn’t let go. The minute I arrive I feel that city pulse, and the minute I get home, I begin planning when I’ll return.

I’ve still got so much to see there. I can never get enough.
