Memories of my days with the FL Keys
I'll admit, I left a really good job, with a very well-respected boutique PR firm to dive into the unknown world of freelancing. It was a decision I mulled over for at least a year. But I did it and don't have a single regret but there have already been several occasions where projects have taken me back to working with folks in the Florida Keys. Each time that happens I'm reminded of the incredible people that live and work there. What's even better is that through my former colleagues I've discovered some really cool places I had never visited.Just the other day, I was chatting with Nadene Grossman of We've Got the Keys, one of the sharpest, wittiest and most professional business owners in the Keys. She was helping me with my current project and mentioned a business called the Mad Hatter. It's a shop located at the Westin Resort and the owner is the genuine article. Dorcas and her husband Whit Robertson own this lovely store where they sell more than 2,000 hats for women, men and children and for every possible occasion. The Robertsons reminded me of all the great people that I worked with during my seven years at NewmanPR and how the tight-knit community they helped create serves as a shining example of what any group of business leaders should follow. They are animal lovers who volunteer their time during rescue/rehab efforts, activists who fight for the rights of residents and environmentalists who take great measures to protect their precious waters and reef. These folks truly live by the "Come As You Are" motto the destination is known for and welcome visitors with open arms because of it.
