Jazz, hangout and a play
And a birthday… Elizabeth will be 20 on Sunday, May 5. Yes that’s Cinco de Mayo! We’re taking her to one of her favorite spots for dinner Moshi Moshi, tomorrow night.
But let’s backtrack to last Friday when I was mesmerized watching the talented performers from the New World Symphony during Jazz at MOCA. They were playing to a backdrop of visual images… images that were artworks created by MOCA’s Teen Force. It was a lovely, breezy night with great music and art. (And as I write this I’m listening to Christmas music! Yes, I’m that nerd that listens to Christmas music year-round.)
Saturday we hung out at Kevin and Michelle’s house for a barbecue and to watch the Miami Heat lose (and they’re officially out of the playoffs, so sad). Monica came along for the barbecue and it was a fun afternoon, chatting, eating and enjoying their gorgeous home.
Sunday I headed to Square Pie City in the Design District/Buena Vista area where we had a Food Rescue US South FL volunteer get together hosted by our illustrious leader Ellen Bowen. It was a nice afternoon where we enjoyed delicious pizza and salads made by Chef Jeremiah and his talented cooks. You should try this place out, it’s legit! Click the link above to check out their location and menu.
On Monday, my sister Mari and I visited our 98-year-old aunt Titi in rehab. She was in good spirits and her son tells us she’s doing much better. After some fun conversation with her, Mari and I went to Jimmy’s Diner just a few minutes from my house for a tasty diner lunch. There is absolutely nothing fancy about this place but the mac ‘n cheese is yummy and my salad was good too.
Wednesday morning traffic was a nightmare but I managed to get the food rescue done and get errands run before I sat at the computer to do some work. And that night it was Nick and I at trivia and we had a great time. We didn’t win but we were flying solo. I need Vance and the Wutzlers back with me!
Today was the annual Family Fun Day at Nick’s program. The folks at the Sandra DeLucca Developmental Center throw a great party. It was Mexican themed in honor of Cinco de Mayo and the festivities including games and lots of exercise was really fun! Check out Nick’s boxing moves above.
Tonight I’m going to the Arsht Center with my friend Janet for what I’m sure will be a rollicking good time watching the one-woman show by Elena Maria Garcia “Cuban Chicken Soup: When There’s No More Cafe.” Click here to read all about it and perhaps buy tickets. It runs through May 19.
And finally, a link to another article I wrote for Biscayne Times, click here to read it. And below a few parting shots. The first of Elizabeth’s art project, a giant green crayon that’s now displayed in our living room and the other of a beautiful scene from my morning walk this week.
That’s all for this week. See you right here in your inbox next Friday.
