The holidays are upon us

It’s the heart of December and things are getting busy and last week was no exception for me.

Me and Brook at his booth at Untitled Art Fair. The rest of the art above this photo is from the fair, ones that I found compelling.

Last Sunday was the final day of Miami Art Week and even though I was unsure whether I wanted to drive to Miami Beach to attend the Untitled Art Fair, I’m glad I did. I found an amazing parking spot and only paid $3.50 for two hours which is unheard of on Miami Beach. Aside from having a nice visit with Brook, Tyler and Ibett at their Emerson Dorsch booth, I loved people watching, seeing interesting art and actually spending some time on the sand at the beach. It was easy since the Untitled Art Fair is set up under a big white tent on the sand at 12th St. and Ocean Dr.

After that, I went to Little Haiti where I spent some time at the Little Haiti Cultural Center and paid a visit to photographer Carl Juste’s Iris Photo  Collective. There I actually got to meet actress CCH Pounder who it turns out was in town for Art Basel. IPC is a great space to visit, I recommend you follow it on Instagram to find out about their next opening.

Tuesday night I drove up to Fort Lauderdale to watch my Editor Teresa Mears perform in a holiday concert with the Nova Singers. It was at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, a beautiful venue listening to their amazing voices. I’m really glad I went, it really put me in the holiday spirit.

The next day was my 59th birthday which I spent relaxing at home, enjoying a delectable lunch prepared for me by Elizabeth. Then that night we were joined by Michelle and Jake for trivia.

Cookies & cocktails at Casa Wutzler, cheers! Thanks to Michelle for always hosting.

Friday night was the annual cookies and cocktails PJ party hosted by Michelle at Casa Wutzler. Michelle, Ita, Teri and I enjoyed a variety of holiday-themed cocktails, tasty cookies and other appetizers. We listened to music, laughed, exchanged cute gifts and shared lots of fun stories.

Final bow by the dancers at Miami City Ballet’s The Nutcracker.

Cute tree at the festive holiday fun prior to The Nutcracker performance.

These trees were beautiful as was the immersive scenery displayed on the walls.

Last night I went to Miami City Ballet’s The Nutcracker at the Arsht Center with Monica. What a gorgeous shown with elaborate sets and costumes, stellar performances by all the dancers and that recognizable score performed by a fantastic live orchestra. Prior to the show we enjoyed a Nutcracker activation they showcased in the Peacock Foundation room at the Arsht. This too, brought me plenty of holiday cheer. Prior to the show we grabbed dinner at La Social where I ordered a really good spinach quesadilla.

I’m seeing The Nutcracker again tonight with my sister Susy and I can’t wait! And I’m going twice because I was able to score $30 tickets to the show thanks to a recent promotion they were running. You should keep an eye out for promo codes/discounts on both the Arsht Center and Miami City Ballet websites, I included links in the paragraph above.

Now let’s just hope the Miami Dolphins are victorious today and that will cap off a great week and weekend! And click here to read my article about a recent theater festival featuring original 15-minute plays by college seniors at New World School of the Arts.

See you next week and thanks for always reading.
