Happy New Year

It’s 2022, another year dealing with the pandemic but I’m optimistic this year will be better. It has to be right? Right!

This was another year with a quiet Christmas (even quieter than last year) and an equally quiet and small gathering for New Year’s Eve and that was perfectly fine. It was just so nice that our son Michael could come home for Christmas this year. That made it perfect.

Lots and lots of bagels and other baked goods rescued from Zak the Baker ready to be taken over to Miami Rescue MIssion.

The Christmas decorations are all put away and I’m ready to keep going on with my volunteer work. Just tonight, I visited my adopted family and brought them what they wanted…a pizza. And I delivered the items not sold at Zak the Baker to the Miami Rescue Mission. The end food waste and food insecurity mission continues for me.

I also wanted to share something I observed while driving today. I saw two vultures perched atop a very high street light as I was on the Julia Tuttle Causeway coming home after the pizza delivery to the family. Those birds just captivated me with their Edgar Allen Poeish creepiness (I know, I know, they weren’t ravens) but still, they reminded me of him.

This week I had two articles published in Biscayne Times. One is a profile on MPower Gym in Miami Shores, the city’s longest-running locally owned business and the other a roundup on classical music in Miami and how excited many of the groups are to get back on stage and perform live. Here are links if you’d like to read them: https://tinyurl.com/2p8kenw9 and https://tinyurl.com/46pkbef7

Coming up next for Biscayne Times, I’m working on a profile on Found Sound Records right in my North Miami neighborhood. I featured them in my December gift guide for the Times and turns out they’re perfect for a profile since they’re locally owned by Miami native Rafael Pichardo. Looking forward to writing that one. I’ll share a link as soon as it’s published.

That’s it for this week. I’d love to hear what’s going on with you and for those in Miami, what you’ve recently discovered around the city that I should check out and let Scene Around South Florida readers know.

Have a great week and see you again right here next Friday! Thanks for reading.
