Chuy's makes it down to Miami, giving Doral a Tex Mex eatery
Tex Mex officially arrived in Doral a few weeks ago with the opening of Chuy's Tex Mex Restaurant, a fixture for some time now in Tallahassee, Gainesville and Jacksonville.Besides a menu brimming with tasty Tex Mex favorites the decor is kitschy and fun. We're talking an Elvis shrine, hubcaps hanging from the ceiling and a clear view of the tortilla makers. They're hand rolling them fresh here every day. They're also squeezing fresh lime juice, serving up New Mexican green chiles, hand pulling the chicken for all their recipes and offering up several signature sauces to make your dish unique. The tortilla soup sounded like a great starter and it was. Homemade chicken broth, hand-pulled chicken, creamy avocado cubes, roasted corn, green chiles, tomatoes and cilantro topped with cheese and their homemade tortilla strips.Deciding what to order was no easy task but I love enchiladas so decided to go with those. There are several varieties of enchiladas and the one that caught my eye was the Southwestern. Billed on the menu as a New Mexican tradition, it's made with stacked homemade blue corn tortillas (love blue corn tortillas), and filled with roasted hand-pulled chicken, cheese and green chile sauce and topped with...a fried egg. That's what sold me, that fried egg. Love me a fried egg. My daughter went with the simpler deluxe chicken enchilada with the same hand-pulled chicken, cheese and the deluxe tomatillo salsa. Now about the sauces, they've got quite a variety. Yes, they range from mild to medium to hot like most sauces but the names are the catch. They've got Ranchero, Boom Boom or Hatch Green Chile, both of which include those New Mexican chiles and their creamy jalapeño sauce. Naturally they've got tomatillo and tex-mex sauces too.And what goes best with all of this? A nice frosty, cold beer, signature margarita or their Texas martini. Now get to Doral and nosh on some of this authentic Tex Mex fare.Chuy's, 8001 NW 36 St., Doral, 786.646.9986
