And this past week…
Sunday night was dinner at Doce Provisions in Little Havana, well Vance and I did, with our very good friends Kevin & Michelle. We drank sangria, laughed, ate some delicious food and enjoyed the atmosphere and each other’s company. If you go I recommend the chorizo croquetas, lechon asado buns, parrilla mixta and masa de puerco chino, all the things that we ordered by the way. Look ‘em up on the menu. I shared a link to the restaurant last week, or you can just Google it. I’ve been thinking I don’t want to overwhelm you with too many links. But… if you prefer links I’ll keep including them.
Saturday night, Nick, Vance and I went to dinner at our friend Mike Palma’s restaurant Mickey Burke’s on South Beach. There we had the Caesar bandido a sort of deconstructed Caesar salad, green Goddess hummus and Nick of course had a burger and fries. It was all pretty tasty.
Yesterday was a hellish day dealing with insane morning traffic, it took me an hour and a half to drive Nick to his program when it normally takes me 35 minutes. So… I had to get in some beach time in the late afternoon. I got on the sand around 5 p.m.. and the water was crystal clear, the perfect temperature and super calm. It was the ideal ending to what started out as a very hectic day.
Tonight, Vance and I went to see CityTheatre’s Summer Shorts at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Downtown Miami, which we attend annually. I loved that all of this year’s short plays were written by local, up and coming playwrights. It’s always a fun evening. If you feel so inclined to check it out, it runs through next weekend. I highly recommend it.
As always, I have to share any article I’ve written since the last blog post. Here’s a link to my article on the very fun Creative Mornings that I attended a few weeks back.
And if you love anime and events like Florida Supercon, next week I’ll be sharing my article for the New Times on the Cowboy Bebop Live Tribute performance happening July 1 at the Miami Beach Bandshell. Click here to read about the event. Cowboy Bebop is a very popular Japanese anime that was featured on Cartoon Network.
Also, a fellow freelance writer Amber Love Bond published her book Drink Like a Local: Miami: A Field Guide to Miami's Best Bars which she calls her “love letter to Miami’s bar scene.” Congrats Amber! Her book is available on Amazon by the way.
Lastly, I want to always encourage you to check out South Florida on the Cheap, a website I contribute to that’s an amazing guide to all things free and cheap! And… if you like California Pizza Kitchen and have one near you, consider dining at one on the dates listed on the flyer I’ve shared above. Mention the Best Buddies fundraiser and 20% of your check will be donated to the organization. Best Buddies International is an amazing organization and one that has made a big difference in my son Nick’s life.
That’s all for now, until next week, be well and have a wonderful weekend!
