A play, a meal, a walk and art
Well hello there! It’s been a minute. Since last Friday…
I went to a fun play “Defending the Cavewoman” at Actors’ Playhouse with my sister Susy on Friday night. It was a nice to see lots of fellow media in attendance and a nice surprise was Crepemaker making tasty savory and sweet crepes. The play runs through Aug. 6 and I recommend it if you wanna have a good laugh.
I went to the beach for a little bit on Saturday afternoon and although it wasn’t very hot, the water was a bit to warm for my taste. It was crystal clear though which was very night.
Saturday night, Vance and I had an amazing three-course meal at Ariete. I had venison tartare with pickled mushroom and bone marrow sabayon as an appetizer, scallops with morel mushroom, fava bean and spring pea veloute and for dessert their signature “The Cigar” a manjari shell with hazelnut praline and gianduja mousse with espresso ice cream. It comes in a cigar box which is very cool. Vance had the king crab cake with yuca, avocado and smoked tomato sofrito appetizer, the truffle chicken on a bed of tamal en cazuela, local greens and bay leaf and for dessert the mango and passionfruit sherbet with arroz crisp and coconut. We would’ve taken photos but the restaurant was lit mainly with candlelight and low lighting, which was really nice actually. Click here to see the entire menu selection.
Sunday, Nick, Monica and I went to see the Barbie movie and absolutely loved it!!! What an amazing surprise of a movie, with a powerful message. Yes, believe it or not, the Barbie had a powerful message! Go see it!
Wednesday night trivia was a bust at Old Tom’s but it was still fun having our favorite food there while catching up with Kevin and Michelle about their amazing trip to Spain for a destination wedding.
Yesterday morning I took a very warm walk around Biscayne Park (more than 8,000 steps!) I was very hot when I got back but felt accomplished. I even jogged a little bit.
Then last night was a busy one. My first stop was at YoungArts for a closing reception talk by several exhibiting artists. It was an enlightening conversation about their work process and what they hope to contribute to Miami’s arts landscape through their work.
After that, I headed over to Emerson Dorsch Gallery where they had an opening reception for their latest show. Titled “Fountainhead Biennial II: Last Days of House,” the show is curated by Omar Lopez-Chahoud. It features a wide variety of work by several artists and the anchor poem by Cuban author Dulce Maria Loynaz. An excerpt of the poem is featured right upon entering the space. Click here to read all about the show which is up through Sept. 30.
It was great to see my good friend Brook Dorsch, the gallery’s founder and catch up with him. Always a fun conversation.
And finally, here’s a link to my article published on Artburst Miami this week. I’m proud to have written about grant resources for artists and it’s wonderful to receive messages of appreciation from them.
That’s all for this week, I’ll see you next Friday to tell you about more fun stuff.
