Return to Casa Sensei, this time for brunch

Last time I was at Casa Sensei in Fort Lauderdale, it was for a sake tasting dinner. It was wonderful then and it was great when I went for their recently launched brunch too.

Settling into a lovely table by the window overlooking the water, my friend and I browsed the menu. Brunch options consist of seven entrees, three traditional brunch beverages and one featured cocktail.

I started things off with a Bellini, which was a nice change from my usual Mimosa (which I still love). Sipping on the refreshing drink and looking out on the water view let’s just say, it’s the ideal way to spend a Sunday.

While I opted to stick to the brunch menu, my friend who is a huge sushi lover, went for a few off menu items. One of those was the coconut shrimp bao buns which were delectable. A wonderful choice of light and crisp battered plump shrimp nestled in a pillowy soft bao bun. The crunchy cucumbers, chutney and cilantro added freshness and color.

The colorful sushi was as bright and beautiful as it was fresh and delicious. Topped with juicy, ripe strawberry slices atop thin avocado that wrapped around the rice, the rolls were filled with salmon, kani and avocado, surrounded by a ceviche mix.

I went straight for the steak a cavalo fried rice. It’s a heaping bowl of fried rice mixed with tender beef strips, creamy avocado and zippy tomato salsa topped with a sunny side up egg. It was steak and eggs with a Chinese/Mexican twist. It works, believe me, it works. I enjoyed the leftovers later that day and the following day too.

Casa Sensei is two for two in my book, bringing it both times I’ve been there. Make sure to check out their website for some other great offers like their Premium Sake Tasting every last Thursday of the month, sushi making classes every second Saturday and Monday through Friday Happy Hour from 4-7 p.m. Click on the link below for all the details.
