Tap 42 keeps expanding, this time to Aventura Mall

Having been to the Midtown location a couple of times and thoroughly enjoying it, I wanted to check out the new Tap42 location in Aventura Mall. The restaurant is situated in the mall's new wing with a wonderful view. Right past the hostess stand are nice roomy booths and the large bar with plenty of seating. Plenty of windows provide lots of natural light.Having already sampled their recent additions to the menu in Midtown, I thought I'd try something else off their list of extensive offerings. With my son joining we enjoyed quite a nice lunch. We started with the crispy Asian calamari tower, perfectly breaded calamari nestled atop Asian slaw, then drizzled with sesame ginger aioli and a scallion garnish and served with a sweet and sour sauce for dipping. All the accompaniments to the calamari were unique and unexpected, in a very good way.Sticking with the seafood theme seemed like a good idea after such a tasty appetizer so salmon it was. The grilled salmon Zen bowl, one of their healthy options, is a hearty piece of salmon served over pan fried brown rice, green veggie stir fry in a truffle miso glaze and topped with toasted sesame. Light and very, very satisfying with plenty left to take home.My son chose the truffle mac 'n cheese which is listed as a side but is substantial enough to be ordered as an entree. I tried a bite and it was pure cheesy goodness with just a hint of truffle flavor. That was a nice surprise given that truffle can overpower a dish yet at Tap42 they've perfected how to use just the right amount. Again, we took some of this home.Since I had a healthy entree I allowed myself a cheat and ordered dessert. We split the chocolate bread pudding. Topped with a large scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce, it was the perfect size, and equally decadent. It's a must for dessert. So far, the Tap42's I've experienced have been delightful and I highly recommend them for a great selection of food and beers of course!Tap42 in Aventura Mall, 19501 Biscayne Blvd., 786.440.7270, click here to visit their website
