Iconic French Chef Daniel Boulud unveils Boulud Sud

Still in the same location, at the very chic JW Marriott Marquis in Downtown Miami, but with an entirely new concept and interior revamping, award-winning French Chef Daniel Boulud has unveiled the new Boulud Sud (formerly DB Bistro Moderne). The description on the website reads:Boulud Sud is Chef Daniel Boulud’s vibrant celebration of the sun and the sea. Drawing inspiration from the coastal Mediterranean, including France’s Côte d’Azur, Spain, Italy, Greece, Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon, Israel, and Turkey the menu emphasizes regional flavors, featuring an abundance of fresh vegetables, seafood, grains and herbs. The restaurant has been completely renovated in neutral tones and soft fabrics to create a relaxing and casual atmosphere. But enough about the decor, we're here to talk about the food. There are so many shareable small plates it's impossible to mention them all, but how fun to keep going back and trying them all right? Well, we didn't run through the entire menu but we did sample the Mezze, a spicy Moroccan hummus, babaganoush, herb falafel plus the artichokes alla romana served with nipatella aioli for dipping and topped with refreshing mint. Some other great choices include the lamb flatbread with eggplant, crunchy pine nuts and labneh and the meaty shortrib barbajuans with Swiss chard, cracked pepper and salty parmesan.Appetizers have plenty of Spanish, Italian and overall Mediterranean influence like the octopus a la plancha with arugula, marcona almond and jerez vinegar and the burratina with heirloom tomato and arugula pesto on focaccia. Plus don't miss out on the earthy kale and beet salad with dates, candied walnuts and labneh or the refreshingly light yellowfin tuna crudo with lemon confit, fresh herbs and local radishes.A simply grilled lamb chop is one of many entrees offered, along with classic seared Mediterranean branzino with freekeh, apricot and artichoke. Or try a couple of other classics like the chicken tagine served with couscous, cauliflower and turnips or the braised veal ossobuco served with gnocchi ala Romana, mushroom and citrus gremolata. The delicate and housemade agnolotti with pumpkin sage and ricotta salata is a must. And want some sides? Try the patatas bravas (crispy potatoes) with garlic aioli, charred broccoli rabe with pepperoncini and shallots or the cauliflower tabouleh with za'tar, mint and fig. Finally, one of the most unique items, and one that is instantly Instagrammable (is that even a word?) is the grapefruit givre. The bright and cheery dessert consists of a hollowed out grapefruit filled with grapefruit sorbet and topped with sesame form and Turkish cotton candy. Now tell me this doesn't want to make you want to rush over there and try this place.Boulud Sud inside the JW Marriott Marquis, 255 Biscayne Blvd. Way, 305.421.8800 https://www.bouludsud.com/miami/menus/
