Labor Day weekend is upon us so rather than labor, spend quality time enjoying the best Miami has to offer. Salsa your way through Little Havana during the monthly Viernes Culturales/Cultural Friday festival or reminisce about the 1980s while watching one of that decade’s biggest blockbuster films.

There are also great deals on some of Miami’s most popular attractions, including $10 admission to Jungle Island all weekend as part of “Neighbor Day” weekend, free admission to Perez Art Museum Miami on Labor Day if you use Metromover to get there and discounted admission on Sunday to Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden.

Spruce up the house with trip to home showThe Miami Home Design and Remodeling Show is always a great place to pick up ideas on how to freshen and spruce up the house and the yard. It runs Aug. 29 through Sept. 2 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Artistic ideas at the Bass MuseumBring the kids along while you take in some culture this weekend at the Bass Museum on Sunday during the monthly free IDEA@thebass event. Kids will make pinwheels during the arts and crafts workshop, then explore the current exhibitions with a museum guide for the scavenger hunt where they can win prizes.

Take an ‘80s retro trip with loveable alien E.T.Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster hit of the 1980s, “E.T. the Extraterrestrial” is the featured film Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Miracle Theatre. The screening is part of Actors’ Playhouse's free vintage films monthly event. This is the perfect opportunity to catch the loveable film on the big screen and join the adventure all over again. Admission is free but you need advance tickets.

Salsa, cigars and historic homes in Little HavanaPuff on a stogie made fresh by one of Calle Ocho’s many cigar rollers during the free last Friday of the month party known as Viernes Culturales/Cultural Friday from 7-11 p.m. Featured at the event are performances by the Ife-Ile Afro-Cuban Dance Company and Regla Cumba, a walking tour with Dr. Paul George of the Shenandoah South neighborhood and exhibits by photographer Layla Llewelyn and artist Madelyn Perez.

Funtastic Fridays at Hollywood Arts ParkHollywood’s Arts Park at Young Circle is the host site for the Funtastic Fridays festivities from 5 to 9:45 p.m. Watch classic rock group Crisis rock the stage, then sit back and relax under the stars to watch the Oscar-winning director Ang Lee’s story of a boy on his journey in “Life of Pi.”
