Fallen heroes

What a year it's been. The sports world has been shaken up by two major scandals, leaving sports fans reeling, aghast, in shock and dismay.First, legendary coach Joe Paterno and the Penn State University disgrace. At one time revered by the college coaching community and football fans nationwide, his record and career forever tarnished. When news first broke about the abuse, you could almost hear the cries of "Say it ain't so Joe, say it ain't so!" But so it was and the football program at the prestigious Penn State is no longer. It's going to take, well FOREVER, for that stain to go away. And now Lance Armstrong, he of the Livestrong campaign, something we all supported because after all, this was Lance Armstrong! The man who rode to consecutive wins in the Tour de France from the late 90s to the early 2000s and battling cancer during several of those years no less. What a hero, an example for us all. But wait, doping? Really? Lance? No, no, no...no way. Impossible. Who are these envious people spreading such rumors, we all thought (c'mon, we all did). But it's more than just doping, it's years of intense deceit and lies, intimidation of his teammates, constant threats and the huge network of people involved, even his wife at the time! Now he's resigned as chairman of his foundation which to me is the final nail in the coffin. That sealed it for me. That, and what seems like mounting evidence that this is all unfortunately, true. Say it ain't so Lance, say it ain't so.
