Double the Miami Spice at Turnberry Isle

The elegant Turnberry Isle is home to a couple of restaurants offering Miami Spice menus. Both Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina and Corsair Kitchen & Bar are offering them and the Miami Spice preview included fare from each one.Executive Chef Gabriel Fenton from Bourbon Steak and Chef Steve Sprague of Corsair Kitchen & Bar shared hosting duties that night. The dinner was an elegant affair with 20 or so of us sitting at a long table in a private room at Bourbon, ready to sample items from each restaurant's Miami Spice menus. The wine room at Bourbon Steak was almost as impressive as the room. The meal began with Corsair's colorful and very refreshing chilled avocado and cucumber soup dressed with crab, lime scallion and a chervil garnish. The bright green color was as inviting as the combination of flavors, mellow and satisfying. A great beginner. The Bourbon Steak kurabuta pork belly with grilled peach mostarda, watercress and quinoa crisp was next. All the elements were covered here with the rich, fatty pork belly playing nicely against the juicy grilled peach. The peppery watercress and bite of the quinoa crisp added the perfect balance. The pasta dish was next and the hand made cavatelli, was a delicate beauty and the perfect bed for spring vegetables like asparagus and peas, tasty leeks, creamy beans and cheese and a perfectly poached egg. The wow factor was big when breaking that open with the fork. The buttery, you don't even need a knife Angus New York Strip sat on a bed of creamy cauliflower puree with perfectly executed romanesco and a rich foie emulsion. Plating was as gorgeous as the rest of the meal.As the finale, we were served art on a plate. The name cookies 'n cream was a misnomer for the Devil's food cake, cocoa nib crema and refreshing buttermilk sherbet. It was served alongside a colorful, summery disc of white chocolate cremeux topped with uava pate de fruit, icy watermelon granita and a tangy, passion fruit nectar.Try these before Miami Spice ends on September 30, you won't be sorry. You'll only be sorry if you don't.Turnberry Isle, 19999 W. Country Club Dr., Aventura
