What am I waiting for?

It took me a really long time to finally pursue the acting thing. Well, I’m not really acting but at least I’m getting my fix when I get cast to do script readings with Naked Angels.

Another pursuit that has taken me forever is finally getting started on telling the story of my family’s escape from Cuba and ultimate arrival in Miami.

A conversation this past week however, really inspired me. It was with my friend Ita’s mother. She shared with me the night, after a holiday family gathering, when she finally sat down at her computer and cranked out her family’s history. I could envision her sitting at the computer, clacking away at the keys, letting it all pour out onto the screen. As she told me the story of how she ultimately had the 200 pages she wrote printed, bound and personally given to each of her children and other family members, I couldn’t help but be inspired.

So maybe, just maybe, I’ll FINALLY get started on writing our story, the story of the Valcarcels and their immigrant experience.

Speaking of which, we recently had a wonderful birthday celebration for two of my siblings and here are some wonderful photos from that night.

Thanks as always for reading. Everyone be healthy, safe and grateful.

Until next Friday…
