Surprise facilitator and stage vulnerability

Yup, that was a heckuva Super Bowl last week, the Kansas City Chiefs did it again. Could Mahomes be the next Tom Brady and the Chiefs be the NFL’s next dynasty team? It sure seems that way.

We watched at home and I made the usual… chicken wings, chips and pico de gallo and nachos. Nick, Elizabeth and I enjoyed watching the action on the field and the fantastic halftime show with Usher.

The very first public art I encountered at the first Metromover station of the day, the Brickell station.

Monday I spent most of the morning into the early afternoon riding the Metromover from Brickell to all the stops in Downtown Miami and back. It was research for an article I’m writing on Metromover Art Tours for the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau website. It was really just an excuse to spend time exploring my city and visiting the Perez Art Museum Miami then walking through Museum Park looking at the public art and enjoying the beautiful weather and view of the water. I submitted the article today and am hoping my Editor likes it. Writing it was a labor of love and so much fun.

Mini chocolate mousse dessert from Pastry is Art.

After the Metromover tour I went for lunch at one of my favorite neighborhood spots Pastry is Art. They’ve got a fantastic lunch special where for $13+ you get half a sandwich, soup or salad and a mini dessert. I had the turkey club, caesar salad and mini chocolate mousse. That place is always a winner and never disappoints.

Cool sign by the podium at the Arts & Business Council of Miami’s kick off MAMP Lab on Tuesday morning.

My first event of the week was on Tuesday where I served as a table facilitator at our Arts & Business Council of Miami’s Miami Arts Marketing Project (MAMP) Lab. I was totally shocked to find out I was facilitating but it was my own fault. I’d received an e-mail alerting me about it but I… deleted the e-mail! Luckily, all went well and I feel the attendees at my table walked away with great information and tips on how best to fundraise for their organizations.

I think my ashes look like an angel, what do you think?

Wednesday I attended Ash Wednesday service and sat next to my long time parishioner friend Connie Carella. Connie convinced me to join the food distribution volunteer group at our church.

So yesterday, I did just that! I met a wonderful group of ladies and learned the system and am ready to come back next Thursday. It was wonderful to meet the faces of all the folks we help with our food pantry.

And last night I finally attended the Moth Story Slam, a long running event in Miami. It’s a storytelling event where random audience members are chosen to step up to the mic and tell a personal story on that evening’s chosen topic. I went with Sandra Lindner (Nick’s former teacher who I’ve mentioned in this blog before), her husband Frank and son Jonathan. It was amazing to experience the courage of people being so vulnerable in front of complete strangers. Last night’s topic was “Love Hurts” and there were some heartbreaking, funny and triumphant stories told. I plan to attend the next one, they’re monthly on the second or third Thursday of the month.

Today I’m about to go for a much needed walk and tonight I will be spending time with my best friend Monica whose birthday is tomorrow. Then tomorrow I will be at Bird Bowl in the morning with Nick and his girlfriend Ashley for a Best Buddies bowling event. And finally, Vance gets home tomorrow afternoon!

That’s all for this week, see you next week in your inbox!
